I just want to let you guys & gals know that I have had some very positive experiences ordering fabric & quilting stuff online. I've ordered off of ebay, but I rely on the seller's reputation and feedback based on past customers. I ordered from bienlien designs on ebay and received a 10% discount on a future order. Thrilled with her service and the future discount!

I've ordered from Connecting Threads and was very pleased with the service and the products. I really like their thread.

QIAD is no surprise. I'm currently waiting on a box from them and hope it will be here this week. Only complaint is no tracking number unless I use an expensive mail option. I can wait. Maybe. :lol:

I also ordered from Hancock Fabrics online. Their main office is about an hour and a half from me, but the closest store was out of a fabric I wanted. I figured they'd stick in the mail via USPS. They used the FedEx/USPS option where FedEx picks it up, sends it from North MS to Memphis to Atlanta to Birmingham then in B'ham gives it to the USPS to deliver to my post office to me. Might have gotten it sooner had they just shoved it in a mail box. For the west coast people, the FedEx option would be quicker.

When I lived in the Sact'o area of California, I could mail a letter to my folks back in Alabama and it took two days for them to get the letter. They could mail one to me and it took 5 days or more. Never did figure out the difference.

I also ordered some Iris print fabric from one of the ladies here on the forum (Thanks, Jane).

A total positive experience. I know some people prefer to pick fabric when they can feel it. I'm inexperienced enough to think that if I like the fabric when I see a swatch, I'll eventually find a good use for it. Wish I could afford the $10 a yard stuff to piece with, but that isn't likely to happen anytime soon. So it's gotta be on sale, much as I might wish otherwise.

Anyway, I hope that posting my experiences with online purchases might help someone else who's thinking about doing so. I'm all for supporting your LQS, but since I don't have one (closest fabric shop is Hancock's and it's 60+ miles from me), I don't mind supporting reputable dealers online when I can.

I order everything I possibly can online, from bed sheets to fabric to kitchen appliances. I would buy gas and groceries online if I could. Especially if I could save money.

The only fabric I buy locally is when I absolutely MUST perfectly match or coordinate a color. When that happens, I make sure I have at least a 40% coupon in my purse.

Thanks for the recommendation. With my huge stash purge I am doing, I am very picky about what I buy and for what. Will have to check her store out.

I love that you have taken the time to post this. I think we all need to do this. Especially with the smaller/Mom & Pop on-line stores. There are definitely small little diamonds just waiting to be found.

Just an FYI - when you want to break up the quoted responses, you have to end each quote with [/quote] . It needs the slash, otherwise it can't pair up to the beginning [quote].

Good news. Thanks - I buy online too but also support my local quilt shop because it is so much fun going in and surrounded by all the fabrics - it can be overload but I love it. I order online from Green Fairy Quilts - they have great shipping and personal customer service - love them. Plus you can buy pre-cuts before they come out at a discount and will receive them up to a month before they are released.

I buy many things online, but most of the fabric is still bought at a LQS, I like to feel it.

I order a lot online even though we have 9 stores in town that sell fabric. And there may be others that I don't know about!

I buy almost everything I can online. I even bought a washing machine. I found what I wanted and didn't have to drive 25 miles to the showroom. They delivered it from that store.

Buying from places like Walmart or Amazon is easier that going in if all you want is a few items.

I should have added, that purchasing gifts are easier. I had wanted to purchase some little tykes toys for my grandsons.

I wouldn't have been able to get them into my car, much less to them over 100 miles away.

Buy online and have delivered to their home. So easy.
