May in Jersey 10-08-2011 01:31 PM

Have been sewing for hours and hours for the past few days using silver Essentials thread, top and bottom. I cleaned the bobbin area each time I had to replace the bobbin thread and there was hardly any lint. Needed to switch to Coats & CLark black thread to sew a few strips to finish off another project, when I took the bobbin with the black thread out the bobbin area was loaded with black lint even though I sewed for an hour or so. I'm sticking with Essentials and have ordered the larger spools of the cotton threads in the neutrals, silver and natural, that I use a lot.

i've been relying on connecting threads thread of over a year now- and love it- as a long-arm quilter i used to have lots of trouble with threads- and wasted tons of money on threads that i could not use- that all changed when i found connecting threads-
there will always be someone who doesn't like something about a shop==='can't please everyone all of the time'
you can really limit yourself when you simply dis a place simply because someone complained- you might find it is wonderful (for you)

You're absolutely right about Clarks & Coat. That thread just explodes fuzz in the bobbin area. I threw away the last two spools I had. I use a lot of Gutterman cotton and Sulky rayon now.

I'm one of the folks that liked their fabric, hated their thread. WAAAYY too much fuzz, dull appearance, and way thicker than other 50wt threads.

No problems with their fabric or their service. In fact now that I know where they are located I might make a trip there.

I am a CT fan. They have delivered on everything I have ever brought and I brought a LOT. I had an issue with one of their patterns and the customer service rep took the time to walk me through the pattern then waited on the phone while I tried to figure out curves. Their thread is some of the best and very reasonable. My only issue is that they do not have variegated thread.

Just got my order from them today and am VERY happy. I have never been treated poorly from them.

I finally placed an order with them - the order was accepted on Sept. 30 and shipped that day - its now 10/8 and my order is not here. I don't know why its taking so long but I hope that its worth the wait. I ordered thread and fabric - I have read so many positive things about this company from this board that I took a chance and placed an order. Now if it would only get here...

I also order from CT all the time. I love their fabrics, patterns, book sales, kits, etc. And I did order their thread...for me the thread was just so "linty"...it did great for fmq, but there was just a lot of lint...now my "quilty sisters" in my quilt group for the most part love their thread...I think its just a matter of preference, as most things are...
Have a great weekend,
Kif

I just got my second CT order in today. The quality has been good and I love the reproduction prints they have! Love it! The only problem I have with the fabric is that sometimes the color isn't exactly what I expected. But it coordinates well enough. I'm sure it's just variations in my monitor resolution.

I got my first sampling of thread in today and it's....okay. I tried a bit for hand quilting and it knotted up a little more than the Coats thread I usually use. I'm going to try again with a shorter thread--I tend to cut it a bit long to avoid re-threading! I think it will be great for machine sewing, though. Fingers crossed!

I also tried out the large-eye super glide quilting needles. They're wonderful...but they're so short I can barely use them! They're about half as long as the needles I usually quilt with! I was able to quilt the tiniest stitches I've ever done, but my arthritic little fingers just couldn't handle it!

I bought all of the color collections of thread. I love them for FMQing. I still like aurofill best for piecing.
Be patient for your order to come. I used their free shipping and it did take a while.
You might want to try coating your thread with bees wax for hand quilting to keep it from knotting.
