Cording for piping.
I'm looking for filler cording for piping. I usually use it for clothes. I found Piping hot binding, every place has the book, but I've only seen 2 places with refills for the cord! I don't need the book or tool, just the cord.
One place was Amazon, the other Northern. I would like to buy a whole spool. If no one has the refill cord, and you can't find a substitute, then what good is the book if it only comes with 5 yds of cord? I've been searching all over the web for 3 days and most of the stuff I want comes from outside the US. OZ in particular. I can't buy anything locally. If it isn't mostly good fabric in fat quarter bundles or fleece, forget it. I'd prefer a store that sold more than just notions. Anyone have a link? Thanks |
Joann, when I worked there we had all kinds of spools with different sizes.

I compared the cord size included w/ the Piping Hot Binding kit to some on a spool at Hancock Fabrics. When it was on sale I could get it for less than what Susan Cleveland wants for a spool on her website. I just bought like 15 yards.

Well....I didn't know what cording was...so I used my husbands roll of pink skinny rope that he uses to measure
distance when setting up his bow hunting target....he has never asked me if I have seen where that went...haha I bet a hardware store has different thicknesses of that stuff too....I'm all for improvising since we don't have a sewing shop here!! |
Does the piping hot binding use a specidal kind of cord? I've seen smaller quantities of filler cord at Joann. Home Sew has it in 10 and 50yd bundles - or maybe the 50-yd is a spool? http://www.homesew.com/pf1.html I used to buy a lot from them years ago and they were are very good mail order company! :)

Oh Kat 13, you're bad! ha. But you know how to manuever. We have to do whatever it takes to get our sewing done, right? Barny

You can buy the exact same cording used with the Piping Hot Binding tool on Jhittle.com.

I have used what they call "rat tail" cording for putting in piping. It is fairly cheap and most fabric stores like Joanne's should carry it.
