I posted earlier about our kids sewing/quilting, but was wondering, are the only one in your family that got the crafty gene?
Do you have anyone to share your quilting passion with in your family?

in My family we have 3 girls...all of us sew, we have crafty genes on both sides..my dad sews, does leather work, lapidary, silversmithing, etc...and my mom does just about everything, but quilt!
One of us girls does not quilt, but she sews garments that are amazing! My baby sister is learning to quilt and I can share that with her now..my daughter also quilts, so I share things with her.

WE all do many arts and crafts...I mean many!

Just come from a family of frugal people if you can make it you do! That means anything and everything!

maybe that is what it was, my dad's family were poor dirt farmers, they never had anything but their God given talents, luckily they used them and passed that knowledge on!
My mom's family had money pre ww1ww2..all was lost after 2..she is from Berlin.
Married, dad was military, and not an officer...nuf said..we were poor...mom never worked out of the house and did not drive, so when dad was deployed or off to Nam, we girls learned crafts!
YEAH.....
I LOVE to teach crafts...

My sister is the one that got me started quilting in the 80's she also cross stitches. As well as my mom sews did cross stitch, needlepoint, and other crafty things., My dad was crafty as well, he did needlelpoint, cross stitches, made little "flys" for fly fishing, and built a lot of things. Both my grandmother were crafty and animal lovers, so I was lucky and got it all.

I have one sister that quilts (among other sewing), one that loves to cross stitch, and one that makes all kinds of clothes and other sewing projects (other than quilting-she has done a little quilting but not much). My mom always sewed too. I don't have any brothers.

My grandparents, parents, sister, and several cousins are (or were) self-supporting artists, so, yeah, for me it's genetic.

My mother was an excellent seamstress and quilter, my sister only sews clothing and crochets a little. Me I like it all, but mostly I just quilt and embroidery. I guess I inherited the love of quilting from my mother.

My mother always was sewing - out of 3 children, I am the only avid sewer and like Bamamama, I was the one to sew clothes, alterations etc for everyone; but this I loved and often did projects for 'customers' for many years. My mother designated a small room in our house for me to have for all my sewing equipment and stuff. One sister, out of the blue decided to knit and she is a beautiful knitter. Today my daughter has my mother's sewing machine and has made quilted pillows and lap quilts and crafty items. I do her alterations! and repairs. Wouldn't want it any other way. My husband is a jack of all trades and can do anything with a saw and hammer. I don't think this generation appreciates the satisfactions one gets from these activities when they can just buy a replacement.
