I am the oldest of 4 girls and the only one who sews, gardens and is a bit crafty. My DH and BILs would say I am also the only one who can cook. My aunts on both sides were quilters and sewers...3 did beautiful handwork; crochet, knitting, tatting, etc.

I have 2 sisters and one brother, and I'm the only crafty one in the family.

Actually, there is only two others in my family that does crafty things. My grama sewed and her mother sewed. I paint scenery with oils, knit, crochet, make jewelry and of course, I quilt. My mom has never sewn a stitch and I'm not sure if she knows how to thread a needle, lol. Most of my siblings are brainy and athletic, mostly teachers. Although one sister made pottery for a living, not sure this is crafty or not.

my grandmother tried to get the 3 girls in the family into sewing by making doll clothes and sundresses for ourselves, but none of us really liked sewing back then. I'm the only one who sews/quilts. and that didn't happen until my 40's when I bought my first house and wanted to decorate. quilting came about 5 years ago as a challenge to use up the decorator fabrics. and now I'm hooked!

I think I got the only craft gene in the family. Mother had babies, 11, does that count? Grandmother crocheted. Neither of my sisters sew or craft. My step daughter makes jewelry, daughter cross stitches. DIL sews, yea finally a partner.

I am the only one left of my family, mother, father, brother and sister all gone. Of my children, my oldest daughter started me quilting. I had always sewn, sewed oldest three childrens clothes. I mean all their clothes except underwear, but never quilted. My son does engraving as a hobby. My youngest daughter will probably never quilt, although she would love to, but she has 7 children from 15 down to 3mos. and hasn't time to breathe much less quilt. Oh, PS, she home schools all of them too. Need I say more.

I'm an only child. My mom was not a quilter, sewer or crafty person. However, my gradmother was a quilter and crafter and I remember as a young child lying under her quilting frame watching the needles go up and down. My only daughter has no interest in quilting or any type of crafts. I'm making sure my granddaughters are exposed with a joyful experience with quilting. Hoping someone will want all my stash, machines, and gadgets.

Oh heck no. Mom used to crochet (she's 80 now) but now she says it makes her nervous (???). Alas, she does not get the idea of quilting....loves the product but why go to all the trouble of cutting up fabric and re-sewing it. Sound familiar? Have one sister - and she doesn't do craft one. Sigh.

I am the youngest of 4. The next sister up sewed magnificently until shortly after her marriage, then nothing. The eldest did some crafts in HS and college, then went on the med school and became a neurosurgeon, so had no more time for crafts. My mother knew how to hem and do French knots, period. Both my grandmothers, and my great grands were very creative needlewomen, amoung other skills. My Dad did everything from making shoes and various musical instruments, to weaving, spinning and tailoring. I am the only one to continue to be 'crafty' in adulthood. My maternal grandmother designed and built her own house. I think I got my crafty genes from both sides. Like my grandmother and my Dad, I have done some of a huge number of crafts.

I'm the only one. My Mom was never into any sort of craft, neither was my Dad. I did have an Aunt who loved to knit, but she lived in Scotland and died many years ago so I never had the opportunity to share our love of crafts. I don't even have any close friends who craft. Lonely sometimes. That's why I love this board!
