Does your hubby also sew or quilt? If so does he have his own sewing machines?

Pam 05-11-2010 01:26 PM

NO, but he can have one of my machines if he wants to!

Jim's Gem 05-11-2010 01:28 PM

NO!! I keep showing him all our male quilters and the work they have done. He has no interest in doing it himself but is very supportive of my quilting!!

CarolinePaj 05-11-2010 01:31 PM

No, but he is quite a talented artist, although he doesn't get much time to paint as he would like!

Hugs

Caroline

craftybear 05-11-2010 01:31 PM

mine is not interested in quilting either but he enjoys seeing my creations

littlehud 05-11-2010 01:31 PM

No hubby here but my son sews. And he has his own machine.

liwilliams 05-11-2010 01:33 PM

No mine's not going to sew - doesn't have the patience. But he did help sew on the binding to his quilt (once). And I did get him to make a yo yo. Just one yo yo! He does like shopping for fabric with me.

FunkyMonkey 05-11-2010 01:33 PM

no.. mine doesn't sew, but he will cover up, like no ones business with a quilt I have made!

vjengels 05-11-2010 01:33 PM

He doesn't sew at the moment... he re upholstered the seats on his 63' corvette... he has this monster commercial grade sewing machine.... I wonder how that would quilt????

gailmitchell 05-11-2010 01:46 PM

My huby doesn't sew or quilt but he's a good egg about all my sewing and quilty whims. He is really good with a seam ripper and he's really good at making gadgets that make my sewing easier. He made me a ruler holder, and a cone thread holder and a few other things.

Are you kidding me? That my dear is a FMQ dream come true, get that thing in the sewing room!

Butterflyblue 05-11-2010 01:50 PM

Does my hubby know how to sew? Yes. And in his lonely bachelor days (as he likes to call them) he sewed himself some blue plaid pillows for his couch, on an old machine his mom loaned him. But he only sewed then on a need-to-have-it basis.

Does he sew now? Not at all. When he needs something now, he asks me to make it for him. He did help me rotary cut some quilt blocks once when I was crunched for time.

marsye 05-11-2010 01:51 PM

No...but he cuts all my fabric into fat quarters, cuts all my blocks, puts together my Cathedral Window kits, irons the fusible web to the fabric, cuts about 50% of my appliques (my mother does alot too), helps me gather fabric when I go to Marshall Dry Goods and anything else I need help doing. He even does house cleaning but he won't cook. He's a keeper.
Well you did ask!!! LMAO!

ann clare 05-11-2010 01:51 PM

No, but he often makes the tea.

CarrieAnne 05-11-2010 01:55 PM

No hubby here either, but boyfriendwill hand sew some...I've seen him sew on a button, lol!

BellaBoo 05-11-2010 01:59 PM

I don't want him to sew or quilt! Quilting is my separate time for me, not me being always the wife or mom. He can find something else to do, I started quilting first.

Born2Sew 05-11-2010 02:08 PM

Mine doesn't sew, and likely never will. He does however, provide me with advice. Hummm... sometimes I want it, and sometimes I don't.

LOL!

My husband doesn't sew or quilt, and I don't forsee him ever doing it. But, he doesn't mind looking at fabrics and quilt patterns with me, and he even helps me choose sometimes. A couple of nights ago, he asked me if I would make him a patriotic quilt (his BD is fourth of July) and I said sure. I asked him if there was a specific pattern he wants, and he said he'd like me to show him some of the patterns I like and think I can do, and he'll choose. Well, last night I was showing him magazines, patterns and some free patterns online, and there was one for a table runner(to be adapted of course) that he liked, then he said he wants to change the design on it though. So he presented me with a design of the quilt he'd like me to make for him :) Merit of story, I guess he likes to design quilts, and I think he'll be really good at it.

sewcrafty 05-11-2010 02:10 PM

DH appreciates sewing, quilting, etc. His mother did all of this when she was alive, but he has stated that he just does not have the patience to even attempt this.

He sounds like a keeper. Mine is also a keeper. Doesn't sew but is very supportive of all my hobbies from sewing to horses. I am even lucky enough to not have a job!

no1jan 05-11-2010 02:34 PM

No, but he builds me things for my quilting. So far he has made both my SIL and me an extension table, a PVC frame for quilting, and he made the proper insert for my new machine to fit in an old sewing desk. I didn't want any hinges put onto my machine to drop it down.

He is very supportive of my hobbies.

pocoellie 05-11-2010 02:46 PM

Unfortunately no.

Melinda in Tulsa 05-11-2010 02:49 PM

LOL, my DH won't even sew a button on his shirt. (Nor will I do it for him!) but he is very supportive of my hobby. When I got my first embroidery machine, he was fascinated by it, but would not let me teach him to use it. (Between us, I think he feels like *real* men don't sew) Please...no one take offense.

Evangeline 05-11-2010 03:05 PM

My husband can sew, quilt, & latch hook. He can also fix the plumbing, rebuild a diesel engine, operate heavy equipment, and mount & balance a tire for my 4X4. He's also a darn good cook. He really doesn't need me for much at all... but he sure does love me!!! =)

Edited to add: Please don't tell him I shared this with you all. lol

Kitsie 05-11-2010 03:09 PM

Friend of mine's hubby doesn't quilt, but does do mosaics and finds a lot of quilt patterns he can do with his tiles!

DebraK 05-11-2010 03:14 PM

No, but he is a great designer. Maybe he is afraid of showing me up ;-)

thequilterslink 05-11-2010 03:15 PM

Mine does not quilt, but he can sew, he has made car seat covers, boat things, together we even made a sail for our ice boat. he has his own machine and i am not allowed to use it LOL

katier825 05-11-2010 03:18 PM

Mine will do simple sewing, but looked a bit hesitant when I tried to teach him how to use the rotary cutter. He normally isn't much of a shopper, but when he's with me, I spend twice as much! What he really is great at is helping me sandwich the quilts! He gets out more wrinkles than I do! LOL

T-Bones mom 05-11-2010 03:48 PM

Mine sew or quilt - you have got to be kidding me. Will not go into a fabric shop with me. But I must say he does not care how much I spend on material (of course I keep it within our means) and he is the one who just got me the brother SE350. Will attempt to make me anything I need to make things easier for me to quilt. Will help me match colors and such as that. And he always praises my work. He cooks but does not clean. All in all, he is a keeper.

No-
But lately he has been full of all sorts of "you should" and takes credit when his idea works. I keep offering to share my machine~but not my stash! He would have to get his own!

dkabasketlady 05-11-2010 04:45 PM

No, but I have invited him into my sewing room. He came in there one time. He has his space and I have mine, besides he might find out where I hide my chocolate stash, lol!!

MissM 05-11-2010 05:06 PM

No way. He kept me occupied during our early years of our marriage going fishing and hunting with him. Now he tends to grumble, that I don't want to do that with him any more, all I want to do is quilt.

Wow Marsye...I though my husband was the best :!: Mine will weigh in on fabric choices, color ideas, pattern ideas and he will help with house cleaning and is a pretty darn good cook, but he won't get near my rotary cutter or sewing machine.
I know what your secret is: You are so funny, your husband loves to be around you...who wouldn't :D :D

Gramof6 05-11-2010 05:32 PM

Not only does my DH do the LA'ing here, he can also make & stitch on binding, he cuts very well, will iron fabric, uses and loves the embroidery machine, does fabulous wood working stuff, builds furniture, builds guns, enjoys reloading his own ammunition, and will help with the housework and cooking. Oh heck yes he is a keeper! Ohhh & he loves to go to Quilt Shows with me & will drive me to Dallas or Kansas to go fabric shopping if I want.

beachlady 05-11-2010 06:15 PM

My DH is the outdoor man, basement man and garage man. He does help a lot with the housework, especially when we entertain! No sewing or cooking for him. He takes naps in the car at the quilting stores!

CAROLJ 05-11-2010 07:24 PM

ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! But he does do dishes and mops.

Beth33 05-11-2010 07:53 PM

My FI knows how, made himself drawstring marble bags when he was a kid.

Dawnfire 05-11-2010 07:59 PM

Yes, my hubby sews. He is a Parachute Rigger in the Army and has to sew for his trade.

He initially had a Juki medium duty inset machine, and then he bought a mitsubishi medium duty for $50AU from a friend who wanted to get it out of his garage. He bought the second one so he didn't have to keep changing thread. Poor baby.

He sews at home quite a bit and has made a small home business. He has a website if you want to look at what he does.
www.aussiespecops.com
Mainly it is stuff for soldiers, bags etc.
He appreciates the quilting and understands my need for material and threads. He has also begun to teach my 15 son who has made his own toiletry bag and backpack for school under his guidance.
At least he understands my need for a 'good' sewing machine and he chose the more expensive Janome I'm getting for its durability etc.
He also keeps the cutting table nice and clean and tidy since I 'taught' him how...LOL.

Charlee 05-11-2010 09:09 PM

William won't quilt or sew...he claims it would drive him batty, and it might! This is a man that will straighten the prints hanging in the doctor's office while he waits for me! If he had points that didn't match he'd go absolutely insane! I do keep trying to talk him into it, but no go. He'd rather just buy me machines and make them work right!

I'm ok with that! ;)
