Help! Help! Help!
I have looked and looked at this quilt top I made almost a year ago and am unable to come up with an idea on how to quilt it. I would like to enter it in our local quilt show( in 3 weeks) but am in a brain lock!! Please if anybody has ideas I'd love to hear them. It is a pattern from Karen Stone Paperpiecing called McCommas Beauty. |
Your quilt is breathtaking. I can't help with the quilting design, but I sure hope you can find one you like and get this into your quilt show because it deserves to be there.
Curved pieces....oh...so envious.....
It is stunning! Can't help with a quilting pattern, but would like to see the finished product.
Have you ever tried trapunto? Trapunto the centers of the bursts. oooh this would really be beautiful.
Your quilt is spectacular. Given the amount of work in it you should do custom quilting. I would SID all of the triangles and star points to get them to pop. Then you can do fancy feathers, leaves, whatever in the big light spaces to kind of mush them down and the triangles will stand out.

That is a beautiful piece of art.
Beautiful, I agree with the feathers, ect in the light areas, and the outline quilting would really make your hard work on the piecing stand out.
No I have never tried trapunto, sounds interesting though.
Wow...gorgeous quilt!
Thank you,
Originally, that is what I was kind of thinking. Then I started to wonder with all the points, if the feathers would be good or if it should be something with a more pointed design? That is why it is still unquilted I pull it out and the undecision comes again. I haven't done actual feather quilting yet on my long arm but have been practicing them and they are really starting to come together. |
Wow, what a beauty!!!!!!!!!!!
It is absolutely gorgeous- thanks for the eye candy :D And I agree- it needs to be in the show. |
this is a link to the technique- you might get inspired though.
http://www.advanced-embroidery-desig..._trapunto.html of course you would not do the 'embroidery" part... but use this same idea for quilting it. |
What an amazing piece of work!!! I see lots of feathers but I am sure you will get wonderful suggestions. What ever you do please show us when your done....

Your quilt is stunning!!! I like the ideas already offered to try trapunto and feathers. I can't wait to see what you decide to do :D:D:D
Wow, what a beautiful quilt top! Love the idea of feathers. but it won't need too much quilting , it is already stunning!

I wouldn't trapunto the quilt, but I might echo quilt around the star and into the center of the stars. (remember, the largest reason to quilt is to anchor all the layers together. Depending on your batting, your quilting has a recommended distance you have to quilt within, anything bigger or looser than that will cause your batting to start traveling around)
In the light areas, the "flow" seems to BEG for feathers ... (not double sides feathers, mind you) ... but simply a half sided feather that sort of echoes the star ... have no way to show you what I mean ... when I look at your quilt, I don't necessarily see the straight lines of the stars, but the lights in contrast, seem to almost be rounded - - it is an optical illusion, and I would think it could be used just to soften the straight lines in your stars. I think trapunto would make the star look lumpy <wave> |
I am totally jealous and envious, I can't wait till I am that good. If you have a longarm, play with all the different stitches. If you don't take it to someone who does that will let you play with it till you find the right stitches.

WOW.. I have had my longarm a month and a half and don't envy your decision here.. your quilt is STUNNING.. can't wait to see what you come up with! PLEASE keep us posted!
Yes, get that beauty quilted and into the show! I see feathers in the light backgrounds with the spine of the feathers following the arch of the triangles and the feathers flowing out to the edge of the block, lots of SID. Please, please post pictures when you have it quilted!
Stunning
Echo quilting on the points, and feathers everywhere to soften the quilt. It's so beautiful! I hope you will post pictures of it when it's done regardless of what you choose! Best of luck in the quilt show!!
I would put 1/4" cross hatching in the gray areas and stippling in the white areas and echo quilting in the colored areas. And then I'd go get a professional opinion! The quilt is beautiful.
Wow... I love your quilt so much! It is absolutely beautiful!

That quilt is gorgeous!
Gorgeous, gorgeous!!! I can't give any advice on how I would do it, because I think I would be in the same situation. I do have a site bookmarked that sells quilting stencils and maybe by looking at these something would just pop out and say ME ME!!!! I know I sit and look at all my quilt quilting books and then I still wonder in a daze.
http://quiltingstencils.com/ Good Luck!! |
My jaw is completely dropped! Your quilt is amazing.
I hear that quilt talk to me. It is screaming for some curved feathers!!
And it is just beautiful. |
Yes, curved feathers that echo/follow the curved lines. Then arches inside the triangles to soften the lines. It's truly a wonderful work!!
When that picture popped up after clicking on this thread the words "Wow, what a fantastic quilt!!" came out of my mouth out loud! I love to paper piece, but have not checked out Karen Stone. Guess where I'm going now!
That is absolutely gorgeous. I am following this thread closely because to me the three worst words in the world are "quilt as desired". I like the idea of feathers in the gray areas, or even a close stiple to really make all the points pop.
Thank you sooo much for your kind words, and ideas! I so love this board!
I think I will finally load this quilt on Monday and go from there(we're going Archery 3D shooting this weekend and will practice drawing many feathers.I like all the ideas and truly do love feathers. Yes, I will post the final quilted quilt when I get it done. You all are amazing! |
love your quilt!
Very visibly stunning quilt. Your color choices are outstanding. You have done a wonderful job. If you get it finished and entered let us know how you did ok? If I were the judge I'd call it a winner!!!!
That is an awesome quilt. I can't imagine where to start with the quilting.
Your quilt is amazing. I sat here and stared for 5 minutes. Amazing.
How ever you quilt it, it will only add to the beauty of your quilt. |
Too many choices. Why don't you just send it to me and let me worry about it.
I think feathers would be a nice contrast to the points. |
Oh! Wow! It's gorgeous!
