HELP PLEASE....more beginner applique questions...
 

I have my appliques stitched to fusing and now I am ready to apply them to the background fabric. This is my first applique project with fusing and I do want it to be a success. I have read numerous tutorials, today's quilting board tips, etc. and find several tutorials mention a product called Sewer's Aid to help keep the needle from "sticking" in the fusing as one sews. I cannot locate it at my local Bernina store, Walmart, or JoAnn's. Any
suggestions or substitutions?

I have paid lots of attention to today's postings regarding fusible applique and needle turn applique. Thank heavens for this Board and all the expertise of the members! You have kept me from troubles several times!!

I use Sewer's Aid when I am sewing with metallic threads. I apply it sparingly to the thread on the spool. Sorry, though, I have not used it for sewing with fusibles. I do hand-applique more than machine applique with fusibles. Also, I have never sewn the fusible to the applique. To me, it sounds like doubling the work?? I bought my sewer's aid as a LQS I think. Or maybe online? did you try Hancock's of Paducah?

When I was introduced to sewing aid it was to make metal threads go smoother. One tiny drop around outside metal bobbin cas3 wipe down the needle to make it smoother up and down. Hence hand sewing on the needle passing through fabric smoother.

I am following the applique instructions I recently saw in Love of Quilting, Jan/Feb 2013, page 65,entitifled seweasy,
Interfacing Applique'. This is my first attempt at applique' and the technique seemed relatively simple. Without ordering from the internet or taking a day trip, the stores I mentioned are the ones available nearby. I shall keep searching. Thank you; I shall keep searching.

Does using Sewer's Aid invalidate manufacturer warranty?
It looks like a useful product but. . . . .
I would like to know, if anyone is able to answer?

Try it on a scrap but I use lightweight fusible quite often...if my needle gets a little gummy I just clean it off with rubbing alcohol on a paper towel....works for me.

I don't remember where I got it, probably JoAnn's. I've never put it near my bobbin! but i have put a thin line across my cotton top thread to help it work better. It's not necessary though. Just something to have on hand.

You really should not need Sewer's Aid. Make up a small sample and sew through it to see if your needle gets gummy; it probably won't. If it does, you can clean the needle with alcohol on a cotton ball. It is not an "essential" for applique!
