There is a pattern out by Debbie Bowles called "Bent Pieces". Go to here web page called "Maple Island Quilts" and look for the above pattern. I took a class from her and it was so easy and fun.

Are you referring to a KALEIDOSCOPE CRAZY PATCH
start with 9 squares?

Could also be the Ricky Tims convergence method.

My quilt guild did a mystery quilt that sounds much like what you are describing. I will contact the leader to see if she has a finished photo and dig out my directions. My quilt is in the UFO pile. The results I have seen are beautiful. I'll contact you directly when I get the info.

I have made one of these and just went through my patterns quickly but couldn't find the name. It is a "slash and shuffle" technique. basically no rules, just cut FQ at various angles and then shuffle them and sew back together. Square it up and sew the blocks together. Will try to find a picture to attach.

This is my beautiful daughter!! Also, I made it to match her room, which was bubble gum pink, teal and black.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but it sounds similar to this tutorial.
