I just bought a Singer 15, serial number AJ092047 for $10. The cabinet needs a little refreshing, but the machine is pristine! It shines like new!! It is missing a power cord, but that shouldn't be too much trouble to find. Question-how do I know which type of 15 it is? I googled, and there are so many possibilities. How does one know?

I would also like to know this.

I just picked up a 15-90 singer and did some research:
http://shop.sew-classic.com/Singer-1...-15-88_c27.htm Also ebay is great for acquiring information. I mainly just did several goggle search's. I typed in Singer w/ the serial #. hope that helps |

this one is even better. |
Does the machine have a motor encased in a "squarish" cover on the post of the machine? If so, it's a 15-91.
If it's belt driven, it's most likely a 15-90. Look at the bobbin carriage. If the "finger" on it points up and to the left, it's a 15-90. If it points up and slightly to the right, it's a 15-30. |
pictures please! I love the 15, got a quilt under mine now. Mine says on the very front of the plate. Oops, it says on my manuel that came with it. Mine is the 15-91 my avartar!

Thanks-this is exactly the information I needed! I get to pick it up tomorrow afternoon, so I'll get pictures out as soon as she comes home! It pays to go to church-I lucked into this because of a conversation after Mass this morning! Couldn't believe she was only $10. I didn't even bother to haggle!!!
She also came with a button holer and other attachments in their original box-and inexplicably, a tattered Singer 66 manual. . .but no manual for this machine!! |
Is it a 66 then, since you have the book? They can look very much alike. The 99 is much smaller though. $10 is an excellent price for either. I got my singer 15 for $20 36 yrs ago and it has mended jeans, sewn boat seat covers, overalls, prom dresses, quilts, coats. You name it, it has sewn it! Love it! Funny, I gave it away twice, and it came back to me both times. I will NEVER ever give it away again, don't know what I was thinking. It was meant to be with me though!

You can get a manual free...check the Ismacs website, or I found mine in the yahoo group files for the group "Vintage Singers".

Ok it finally happened, I got "THE BUG"
here is my first vintage find....is vintage the right word? Its a Singer 15-90 1948-works came w/ a ton of attachments & the manual. 25.00 at a yard sale Now how do i go about cleaning her up? I read in my hours of researching, a car wax,..... nothing abusive or with alcohol . I have a man that does wood working, going to see what he would charge me to help fix the front panel. |
