A few days ago someone posted that they had sewn in a class, I can not remember all of the details, the instructor said not to iron, so, I thought to myself, this deserves a chance. I was making quarter triangle squares (think that is what you call them) when I joined pieces I finger pressed and it was not until I finished sewing entire block, did I press. I was amazed, all of the blocks met in the middle exactly as they should, maybe there is something to it, does it get distorted after pressing? I am going to try this again, hope it matches when I do. Thanks to the poster who shared this, too soon to say it works, but it works as well or better then my pressing after each seam.

It stands to reason that while heat may set a seam, the heat will also cause distortion dependent on the fabric. Heat causes objects to expand, while cold shrinks.

I haven't gotten to sew since reading that but am very anxious to try.

I have never tried this before but an willing to if it worked for you.

There must be something to it. I am going to try it next time.

Instead of ironing or pressing, I use a wallpaper seam roller to flatten my seams until the block is complete. It works awesome for me..

I never would have thought of the wall paper roller. It is a good idea. I have one in my tote of paint supplies am going to have to dig it out. I know finger pressing it worked good, but this might work better.
