My friend asked if I would help her clean out her attic, this house is really old and dates back to the 1800's or more and it is a very big attic with lot of junk up there, I think people use to just put everything they were not using in the attic.
Anyway we found a turnk and it was full of real old clothing and 2 old hand pieced quilt tops, and some that were not all done yet, she didn't know where they can from and asked me if I wanted all of them.. WOW! I jumped at that. LOL... I took them home and washed then and they look really nice. one has a small stain on it but it is in a place that would not show.
What I want to know is can a LAQ quilt these tops seeing there are hand pieced? I don't know how to hand quilt so that is out.. what would you do with them?

this one has 16 inch blocks and is really big

Awesome!

Gramie bj 10-03-2011 07:36 PM

That is great! Take them to LA and ask her opinion, talk to her about how you want them quilted. or you my be able to find someone willing to hand quilt them for you, check at your LQS, or a Guild they may know some one.

Greenheron 10-03-2011 07:40 PM

Find a hand quilter to finish them for you, or at least the red and white--it's not so common--they deserve it.

cyd 10-03-2011 07:42 PM

How wonderful for you to find such beauties! I'm sure you will get a great deal of pleasure from them.

Willa 10-03-2011 07:43 PM

Lucky you!

NancyG 10-03-2011 07:45 PM

SCORE!!! Beautiful quilt!!

angiecub 10-03-2011 07:51 PM

There are also hand quilters you may be able to hire. Check with your local quilt shop or fabric store (Joanns's maybe). Hand quilting would be great to see on these, especially the first one.

quilting memaw 10-03-2011 07:59 PM

Beautiful! My question is if you have them finished will it hurt the value? I would also ask an appraiser.

jmabby 10-03-2011 08:02 PM

Those are wonderful, I love the red and white one. I would take them to someone who does hand quilting. If you don't know of anyone ask the ladies at the quilting shops in your area, or maybe someone at church would know somebody. I would ask several and get quotes, take your time finding someone, the tops have waited a long time, they deserve to be done perfect. You are one lucky girl!!

crafty_linda_b 10-03-2011 08:23 PM

What beautiful treasures you have...I agree they should be hand quilted. I don't know what area you are in but if you could find an amish group to do them that would be the perfect touch!! crafty_linda_b

clonesfan2 10-03-2011 11:31 PM

What a find I think I would try to find a hand quilter to do these.

quilterella 10-03-2011 11:48 PM

I agree with the others...while a LA'er would do a wonderful job, find someone that will hand quilt it for you, if nothing else to preserve the time era in which it was made. Awesome score...wish I could come across something like that...congratulations.

blondeslave 10-04-2011 01:19 AM

What a wonderful find!

MargeD 10-04-2011 04:36 AM

What a lucky day for you. I don't know the name of the block, but it is gorgeous and beautifully hand sewn. If you belong to a guild, take the quilts and ask their opinion. A LAQ might be able to tell you if she thinks they can be machine quilted and/or she might also be able to tell you if she knows someone who would hand quilt them, especially that gorgeous red & white quilt. When I lived in NH and belonged to a local quilt guild there, one of the women there actually sent her quilts to the Amish, who hand quilted her quilts for a reasonable fee. It might be worth checking it out.

Nancy S. 10-04-2011 04:44 AM

How Lucky. They are Beautiful.

Mariposa 10-04-2011 04:49 AM

Wow! Neat finds!

pocoellie 10-04-2011 04:49 AM

Wow!!!!! They're beautiful, so glad that they have found a good home. If you can afford to find someone to hand quilt them, then that's what I would do. On the other hand, maybe you could learn to hand quilt and do them yourself.

alfosa421 10-04-2011 04:55 AM

Oh how beautiful. Your LAQ will give you specifics on how to prepare them for quiolting but I don't see that there should be a problem with getting them done!! Lucky you!!!!

ljptexas 10-04-2011 04:57 AM

Wow!!! What a treasure find!!!
