Love Of Quilting???$$$

I just got a renewal notice for Love Of Quilting. I have been letting go of most of my subscriptions (money is tight & getting tighter) but this is ridiculous!! $77.91 for 1 year (6 issues) or $155.82 for 2 years (12 issues). I hope this is a typo because this comes out to $12.98 an issue! Is this crazy or what? Has anyone else gotten this offer or am I the only lucky one? Just curious.

Mariposa 12-11-2012 01:53 PM

That's definitely one I'd pass on!

kathy 12-11-2012 01:56 PM

WOW I didn't even look at mine because I'm not renewing, I'll have to see if I can still find it to check.

quiltsRfun 12-11-2012 01:58 PM

Are you sure it's actually from Love of Quilting? Sounds like some kind of scam to me. You could pick them up at the news stand for much less.

maybeblue 12-11-2012 02:01 PM

It must be a typo. I don't subscribe, but according to the website it's much less than that.

Daylesewblessed 12-11-2012 02:11 PM

Subscriptions made through our quilt guild are $15 for the 6 issue year.

quilterjody 12-11-2012 02:17 PM

I subscribe to magazines through magazines.com They have had some great sales for the holidays. I got a quilting mag. subscription for 4.98 for the year because they sent me a $10 off coupon in my email.

patski 12-11-2012 02:24 PM

maybe they are including "free" gifts! That sure is a crazy price

lakekids 12-11-2012 02:46 PM

The Fons & porter website says it is 16.07 plus $4 for shipping. so that is 20.97.

oneteappot 12-11-2012 02:56 PM

I received a renewal notice today from them. The price on my invoice is $20.97 for one year and/or $32.97 for 2 years.
Must be a typo that you received.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 12-11-2012 03:00 PM

The website says $16.97/year.

I just looked at all the quilting magazines available through Amazon. Patchwork and Quilting is $86 forr 1 year/12 issues! I've never seen that magazine and I'm betting I never will.

BellaBoo 12-11-2012 03:02 PM

No way this is true. Too funny.

LynnVT 12-11-2012 03:08 PM

If you think our quilting mags are pricey, I just opened the renewal notice for hubby's Model Railroader Magazine - $42.95. At least it's 12 issues, though. You can save $7.95 by getting two years for $77.95, but that's too much to come up with at one time.

Lori S 12-11-2012 03:16 PM

I let my subscriptions go a few years ago.. it seemed like it was alot of the same just different fabrics.

ckcowl 12-11-2012 03:19 PM

i dropped all of my subscriptions a couple years ago- seemed like 1/2 the time i didn't make anything from the magazines...i still browse through the offerings at the grocery store mag rack when i shop & pick up different ones off & on- seems like i get a pretty good selection of new projects- articles- without being *committed* to one particular magazine- i must say though- i always loved the fon's & porter. if you want to renew you may be better off doing it on line directly through their site- the thing you received is not accurate...maybe it was somehow an international offer or something...

Yes, I got one.....it was for about $71; called F&P and as I remember, they said it must have been from some mag sub service. I wish I'd saved it! I looked on Amazon for the Patchwork & Quilting one mentioned, and it's for BRITISH P&Q. Our version is American P&Q. I wonder if the F&P one was like that too.

Tropical 12-11-2012 04:03 PM

I just checked online Fons and Porter. They have one full year for $16.97 plus $4.00 S&H. If you pay online you recieve 12 quilting guides free. The advertisement goes on to state the price of the two year subscription. You might want to check it out. :):):)

There's also Australian P&Q, which is also (understandably) pretty expensive. However, that magazine has some gorgeous projects.

I sure wish the American magazines would expand their horizons. They all seem to be the same old, same old. I'd LOVE to see them start featuring more of the styles and ideas coming out of Australia and Japan.

Pat625 12-11-2012 04:55 PM

Is this the best of the magazines?? I would love to subscribe to one after the holidays

QuiltnNan 12-11-2012 04:59 PM

since some have posted different prices found... i'm wondering if they are 'testing' different prices. maybe they want to see how many will call them to question that.

cassiemae 12-11-2012 05:11 PM

Wow that is bad I would not renew at all.

Charming 12-11-2012 05:15 PM

Definitely a typo or a scam email so be careful

mucky 12-11-2012 05:17 PM

I always do a google search for the magazine and usually find some fantastic prices.

dunster 12-11-2012 05:18 PM

F&P have been sending out the CD's with lessons and then repeatedly dunning people for payment, even though the CD's were unsolicited and therefore can be considered freebies. Perhaps this is their next marketing ploy? Maybe they figure that a few people will just renew without noticing the price.

mucky 12-11-2012 05:19 PM

Personally I don't care for the magazine.

Thumbelina 12-11-2012 05:30 PM

I just got my renewal subscription and mine says 1 year $16.97 + $4s/h or $26.97 +$6s/h for 2 years. I don't any magazine is worth $77.00 a year.

grannie cheechee 12-11-2012 05:46 PM

A friend told me about receiving a notice from Love of Quilting that her subscription was due for renewal. She called Fons and Porter to tell them she still had 2 yrs left. Its not them doing this, and they aren't happy about what is happening. Its too bad Fons and Porter doesn't do something about this company. I'm ready to just buy at the store if I want a mag because I never know when I'm going to get one in the mail. LOL

Pinkiris 12-11-2012 06:25 PM

My husband has gotten some "renewal" notices on magazines that he still has 3 years to go on his current subscriptions. These notices are sent by magazine services that must take their commission out of getting you to send money early through them.. After seeing that Newsweek has gone to electronic issues only, I'd be leery of signing up for more than 2 years of ANY magazine. The time of using electronic tablets/readers is fast approaching!

GemState 12-11-2012 07:31 PM

AHA!! I renewed my subscription to Love of Quilting in October for $32.97 for two years. In November I received a statement like you did, for the renewal of the magazine for $77.91 for one year or 155.82 for two. I just ignored it but kept the statement for some reason. How interesting!! We are also having a problem with another well known magazine. I get calls about our subscription all the time ttelling me it is time to renew. Right now we are receiving 2 a month of the same magazine. I refuse to talk to them and will just let the subscription lapse.

owlvamp 12-11-2012 07:33 PM

WOW! i would pass at that price.

rebeljane 12-12-2012 04:53 AM

Sounds like a scam to me after checking their website.

brenwalt 12-12-2012 05:18 AM

Naw, you don't need it.....

Gabrielle's Mimi 12-12-2012 05:18 AM

You have to be careful....this "offer" sounds like it is not from the publisher but from a magazine subscription service. Watch out for them! They offer you a free or greatly reduced price because you bought some product, then they are pushing you to renew way before your subscription time is up, and at outrageous prices. We also got taken by some inner city youth program (allegedly) and they wanted a lot for a magazine. My husband said, okay he'd take one magazine to help out, but then they said, well, you have to subscribe to four magazines! Lots of scams out there. Buyer beware!

JoantheQuilter 12-12-2012 05:29 AM

This is definitely a scam. I've received several of these in the last few years and just simply tear them up and throw them away. NOT affiliated with Fons and Porter at all. DO NOT SEND THEM MONEY!

SandySews 12-12-2012 05:37 AM

I just saw on their tv program this past Sunday that they are aware of this and it is definitely a scam.

lclang 12-12-2012 05:47 AM

I have dropped all my subscriptions to quilt magazines. They push special fabric lines and I don't see much new that I feel is worth the price. There are a LOT of free patterns on the internet and all it costs is your time. I have patterns from years back so why spend money for more?? I think they are overly expensive compared to other magazines and they pile up and you have to do something to keep them in check, either donate them or throw them away.

bigdogmom 12-12-2012 05:54 AM

I have gotten renewal notices for several of my magazines with ridiculous prices. I ignore them because I am pretty sure they are from a scam company. Just contact Love of Quilting and renew at their website.

Pieces2 12-12-2012 06:00 AM

I'm sure its a typo error. I never found much in their magazines anyway.
You can find more info here at the QB. :0)

jeank 12-12-2012 06:08 AM

My renewal is 18.95 for the first subscription and 10.00 for all the gift subscriptions, and they will send a CD of all the 2011 issues to each of the subscriptions as a gift.

You have to watch the return address and who to pay, their are a lot of scams out there. This one goes to Love of Quilting in Palm Coast FL, this is the right address.

quiltmom04 12-12-2012 06:19 AM

Seems a bit much. Anyone notice this about Love of Quilting? They are always sealed in a plastic bag at the newsstand so you can't pick it up and leaf through it to see if you want to buy it. So I don't - it really steams me!
