mixing batik with none batik fabric

I have bought some precut batik for a quilt and my question is can I use none batik fabric for the background?
It is hard to find light color batik, white or off white.
has anyone done that and how did the quilt came out?

thank you

Yes, you can mix them. I will attach a couple of pics. The log cabin blocks are all batik. Tonga Meringue are the light colored ones...well mostly that brand. I did mix in a few pieces of other beige batiks. The other quilt is all batik, but on premium muslin background.

If your LQS doesn't stock light batiks, you can find them online at a variety of places.

There has been a couple of other threads about this subject in the past couple of weeks. You can mix quilting cottons with batiks. Just make sure you pre wash your batiks. You can prewash the precuts by hand. This is a quilt that I made and the yellow background and the dark purple in the borders is quilting cottons and all the rest are batiks.

Absolutely you can mix them. There is nothing that says you have to have pure batiks on a quilt!!!

I would add, if you are mixing batiks with other cottons, wash everything and pre-shrink. Batiks and cottons often do not shrink the same and can make a quilt look pretty strange after the quilt is finished and washed many times.

It is a pattern by Java House and it is called "Infrognito" I'm willing to sell my pattern as I doubt I will use it again. PM me if interested! or it can be found here http://www.javahousequilts.com/scrip...roductlist=yes

Definitely, pre-wash everything. Batiks (because of the high temps used) don't shrink, but frequently bleed. The regular cottons may shrink. It is best to get all the messy stuff over before the fabrics go into a quilt.
