...or maybe I should say, my "duh" moment!
I bought my sewing machine before I ever started quilting. Have been quilting now for about 9 years, I guess, and I just discovered I have a 1/4" foot in my tool kit! Argghh!!!!

pheasantduster 03-26-2011 10:16 AM

Better late than never! Keep smiling and quilting.

Dollysquiltingmom 03-26-2011 10:18 AM

Oh, my! When I read this post I thought, "I wonder what a 1/4" foot looks like". Just looked up a pic on the internet. Guess what? I have one of those, and I'VE NEVER USED IT EITHER.

A huge aha for me, too! Thanks for posting!

MadQuilter 03-26-2011 11:09 AM

Just so you know, 1/4" foot does not guarantee 1/4" seams. I hope yours is, but just to make sure: MEASURE your seams/pieces before you sew a whole bunch of stuff assuming that it is perfect. (Ask me why I'm telling you this, lol)

Thanks for the tip. I'll double check mine.

This is where I wished we had a "like" button. I did the same. Just discovered my 1/4" foot.

emerald46 03-26-2011 11:52 AM

lol..I found the thread cutter my accident. Pulled the square up and "accidently" cut the thread and thought OMG what have I done now. Use it all the time now.

sassyg 03-26-2011 11:52 AM

Don't feel bad quilters.... I use to give support for one the computer companys and a customer called stating that HE hit the help key and no one showed up.lol

liminanc 03-26-2011 11:59 AM

I just checked and believe I have one, never knew what it was for, that would require finding the manual to read it lol

gunny148 03-26-2011 12:29 PM

I know the feeling about going out and getting a Quilting foot 1/4, them finging out you have. One has a single hole for the needle and the one that came with the machine has a hole fo the double needle set up....gheezzz

 Many people assume that the foot that was attached when they first purchased it IS a 1/4 inch. It's only after things don't quite fit right, when they start thinking to test it out or just plain give up the whole plan in frustration.

nycquilter 03-26-2011 01:05 PM

hey, with the money you saved, go buy fabric! (didn't read all posts, hope this isn't just a repeat message)

elffen1 03-26-2011 01:20 PM

Geez, no worries! There's always that little zipper pouch filled with little gizmo's that no-one knows what to do with! There might even be a can-opener in there!

QuiltnNan 03-26-2011 02:57 PM

It just takes some folks a smidge longer LOL

CarrieAnne 03-26-2011 03:17 PM

Lol< at least you found it!

christinetindell 03-27-2011 03:53 AM

Hey, don't feel bad, I have had my Babyloc for about 3-4 years and I just discovered a year where the thread tension was!!

justlooking 03-27-2011 04:01 AM

It sounds like we are all in the same boat, so excited to get to sew on our machines that we forget to see what all we have. Me included!

LOL, LOL...That was really just too amazing...like the lady who told the true story on the GCC forum about the man calling in the service tech for problems with his computer not working and went on and on when the problem was the electricity had gone out of his building....poor tech lost his job because he told the man to take back his computer because he was just to stupid to own a computer. That said I am computer challenged in many ways but this one takes the cake.

At least we can get many good laughs here!

Ladies I was not referring to you not realizing you already had the quarter inch foot....easy to miss but I will say it does pay to read your manual and see what feet are already provided and what they can be used for.....I am not perfect by any means and make more than my fair share of mistakes some far worse that I dare not admit here or anywhere. :(

cjaye44 03-27-2011 04:53 AM

Better late than never  . At least you found it which is more than I can say about a lot of things.

Ooooh! That means that I should check to see whether I have one in mine. LOL Thanks for the reminder!

Charley 03-27-2011 05:04 AM

Charley 03-27-2011 05:07 AM

I think we have all been there at some point in our lives! :) The important thing here is that we can laugh at ourselves. I do that a lot! :)

Homemother 03-27-2011 05:12 AM

Giggle!!! Thanks for sharing you aha moment! Gave me smiles. I've had my "pound head on desk several times" experiences because of something or other. Giggle!!!

emsgranny 03-27-2011 05:13 AM

You sound like me lol I am self taught and I learn something new everyday. This board has helped alot. I have purchased stuff without knowing what it was before - now I am learning what it is and some are very helpful :D

sandpat 03-27-2011 05:17 AM

Melrose R 03-27-2011 05:21 AM

drdolly 03-27-2011 05:34 AM

aren't surprises fun. You can say look what I got!.

Pzazz 03-27-2011 05:36 AM

My machine is sneaking on to 40 years old. Unfortunately it did not come with a 1/4" foot...I checked last week. :( Even to put something on the surface to give myself a 1/4" edge to butt up against is tricky as the 1/4" from my needle is smack in the middle of the right feed dog!!!! My solution was to use a thick piece of cardboard taped to the surface, stopping just in front of the feed dogs. Sometimes you just have to do whatever works on each machine. I suspect if I looked, I could buy a 1/4" foot....but this is cheaper. (Read..more $$$ for fabric. ;) )

MYWR 03-27-2011 05:48 AM

guess I'll have to check that out - my machine predates my quilting - had it abut 7-8 years now Maybe I have that wonderful gadget !

Charley 03-27-2011 05:54 AM

Boy, have I done that too! And what's worse is buying something and then later forgetting what it is I am supposed to do with it! :o)

Years ago my neighbor called the TV man because her TV would not even turn on. Problem: extension cord was dead.
Husband was not a happy camper as he paid for a service call.

carrieg 03-27-2011 06:14 AM

sometimes it pays to read the manual once a year! Glad you found it.

huntannette 03-27-2011 06:20 AM

yep....i found out the hard way too...lol

I have the same problem with 1/4" covering right feed dog. However, I can move my needle to the far right (when I remember to do so) and then mark 1/4". I do not like the 1/4" foot as it does not hold the fabric as snug as the regular foot.
