There's a Bernina group on yahoo. That might help. I got an 820 last year and it has a lot of nice features,but there are problems. Bad manual, not enough info, dealer classes are minimal at best. Many of the problems are user error, but the company should provide more and better training when we buy the machines. It's frustrating, but over time may improve as you get more used to the machine. No kidding!! Maybe it should cut the fabric as well..... For the money spent, you should definitely be getting better customer service. My experience with Bernina is that they have excellent customer service and stand behind their products. Your dealer may not be performing up to Bernina's standards....

What your dealer has told you is not true. I am in training this week and improvements to the 830 are continuing. Also, our shop has a new 780, and I think they are more in the 10K range. If you have a problem, contact your dealer. If they can't fix it, they should send it back to Bernina. I love my Berninas and just hate it when others have problems with theirs.

Try some Connecting Threads brand thread. My Bern seems to like that kind best. Also make sure that you threading the bobbin right. There is a certain way and I didn't know about that until my machine came back from Chicago..and I've had my machine for 4 years...

Talked with Bernina today about my 830. She said she would be talking to my dealer and would call me back either today or tomorrow. I told her that after 5 trips to the dealer (two ended up with it being sent back to Bernina) plus the one that will be made tomorrow would make 6, I thought the machine needed to be replaced. she said that decision was done on a case be case basis, but she would talk to me more when she called me back. Hope I am happy after we talk.:hunf:

this is why I'm sticking to my Viking. I've had it for a yr and never a moments problem with thread or tension. I love it so much (and Viking) that I'm now trading in my Ruby next week for the top of the line Diamond Deluxe. It was used at the viking convention so it's listed as used but gets new machine warranty plus lots of extras and all of the hoops, etc that I got for my Ruby will fit on it. I'm getting such a discount on it and with my trade-in it was a no-brainer. I hope you find out what's wrong with your machine. I agree, when you spend alot for a machine you expect (and should) to get what you paid for. There is something wrong that's for sure.

Once I'm in QB I go to archives to find the newest posts. Archives comes up with newest post first--whether it is a new thread or a new comment on an old thread. I'm sure that's why your original thread keeps popping up. Someone had a new comment to make about your problem or their own problem with Berninas. Or they had subscribed to the original thread and someone just added a post to it.

I also am having repeat messages that my thread is broken when it is not. What to do?

I had three Berninas plus a serger and felt confident about sinking my retirement separation pay into the new 830....almost all if the accessories, too. It was a lemon. I was humiliated by my dealer every time I took it in for repairs. After one repair trip, I started sewing on it immediately and the bobbin mechanism plopped out of the machine onto my lap. Of course, it had to be my fault. Instead of making the 2 hr round trip back to the dealer, my DH purchased two small hex drivers on his way home from and had it fixed in 15 min. After 3 years of hassling with the dealer, I documented all of the problems and parts that were replaced, and explained that if it was not replaced, it would be the last Bernina anything I would buy. Took the letter to my dealer and said he can deal with it or corporate, made no diffetence to me. I did receive another 830...not sure if it was brand new as I was told. It had 27,000 stitches on it at delivery. I was afraid to use it, because using it seemed to break it. Eventually, I made a few embroidery items, then problems with the top thread tension started, just like the first machine. I stopped using it. When the 780 became available, I traded in the 830 for it. I wanted so much for my 830 to work properly; I was fond of its good features. The 780 is wonderful. I have been able to actually use this machine. no thread problems, and I can hem a pair of jeans, which I could not do on the 830. But so much poor history with the dealer, Im considering selling it so that I do not have a need to go back to the dealer again.

Any electronic machine can have rather strange problems and the electronics are not cheap to fix. I have what was a TOL Pfaff, had a board replaced rather than upgrade to a CV. I don't like drop in bobbins and the 2170 was far closer to the 1471 I had and really liked. It's the devil I'm familiar with, although I can luckily figure out any machine on my own.
The 1471 let you make your own stitches by coordinates, and everyone was putting out coordinates. Could have so many more stitches at no cost other than labor.

Threads are funny. I went by a Bernina dealer and they had an 830 running full blast with METALLIC thread. I watched that machine for about 2 ornaments, and no thread breakage. I bought the OESD thread which worked just as well on the Pfaff. The Pfaff also loves aurafil.

We had an older Ellure. There were some things I liked about the machine and others I didn't. My daughter took it over.
I was using it for buttonholes! I do like BL software. I bought Cardworks and the box since it would deal with her Ellure and my Pfaff.

Any machine can go wonky from the getgo - You need a more reliable dealer. If the machine is acting up, use your cell phone and send a video!
