I was in a quilt shop and a customer tried to explain to us a new way to paper piece. You used a master freezer paper pattern which you ironed on to your fabric. You also had your individual paper pieces, cut out. Here is where I can't remember....you lifted up a portion of the freezer paper and set in the templates piece with fabric, then somehow sewed along the paper's edge(with a stitch in the ditch foot). Using this method you don't have to remove the paper pieces afterward but still have the accuracy of paper piecing. Has anyone else heard of this? I am making a large hunter's star and need to eliminate as many steps as possible.Thanks so much for any hints or help.

If you go to free patterns, and go all the way down, there is a Getting Started button on how to well to get started with that. I saw her at the International Quilt Festival demonstrating her method, and bought one of her patterns, have not got around to doing it, it has like million little pieces, but looks like a fun method. I am not sure that is what you are talking about, but sure sounds like it to me.

Hello & welcome from the state of Washington!! :D I have never tried the paper piecing method before, but it looks interesting. Thank you for sharing the web site with us.

I'd like to try the freezer paper method. I usually use newsprint. I buy it at Staples in a pad called Hands On Scribble Pad in the childrens art section. It goes through the ink jet printer and tears away super easy. I have to trim off 1/2 from the width but I do that with an old rotary cutter and cut many pages at one time.

It looked very cool while she was doing it. I remember her saying that she encourages cheating. I bought the "Welcome" pattern, which is small, but has so many pieces, I was excited at the time, but now I just keep delaying it, because it just seems like a lot of pieces to work on, her advice: approach it one section at a time. Maybe soon, I'll get the courage to start that. :-)
