Try a search for Turning Twenty patterns & check out books #2 & 3. They are a little more involved than
the 1st Turning Twenty but do have a square or rect. that would work for embroidery. |
I think rather than thinking of it as in blocks like a traditional quilt you could peace it in sections and then sew it together and use the embroidery blocks on top of the quilt

This is book 3 of Turning Twenty, "Turning Twenty Around the Block". This is probably more suited as it is designed for both horizontal and vertical embroidery designs.
