I went to a little fabric shop today and saw some beautiful batik's, thought I think all batik's are beautiful. The girl told me that they were $12.99/yd. I said you are kidding right? I told her I could go to Hancocks of Paducah and pay 9.99/yd. if I wanted Batik's that badly. I still have sticker shock from it.

Has anyone else seen Batik's this highly priced?

Brick and mortar stores can't compete with big retailers or internet shops. I think that price is high, but I've not shopped batiks from my LQS recently. The price of all fabric is up, so no I'm not surprised. And yes, you can buy over the net as I do too, but I do still try and stay local for some purchases to keep the doors open at my LQS.

I was in a shop the other day and the Batiks ranged from 9.99-18.99/yd! I'm collecting Batiks for a quilt now and that's a bit scary.

Yes, I visited a shop in Louisville KY in March and their batiks were 12.99. I did buy 1 yard of a red because I really really liked it :)

I probably would have falling on the floor if she had said $18.99/yd.

I am willing to admit, my stash is large enough - time to utilize it. No use in saving.

Hah! Some of JoAnn's Fabrics batiks are $12.99 !!!! Why on earth would I pay that at JoAnn's when I can get such better quality online for such a better price???

I was shopping Batiks just today at a LQS. I didn't look at them all but what I got were $9 & $10. Lucky I could get them as had just bought gas @ $4.28 a gal.

Batiks are getting expensive. I'm glad my stash has a lot of them. I using my stash more all the time. I should get to enjoy the fabrics I have collected.

That's what I was going to say. Several at Joanne's have spots with no color and it makes me nuts.

Mine here has gotten a bit out of my range... I have been buying more batiks on line. ... but batiks are sooo hard to buy online as all of the colors may not show up in the swatch ... too many times I have gotten surprised... but because of the pricing at my LQS much as I hate to do it .. I have been risking the occasional surprise in the colors and buying batiks on line .

Come on up here to Canada. At my LQS they range in price from 16.99 to 18.99. :-(

You wouldn't want to come batik (or any fabric) at the LQS in Canada! Last time I was at Fabricland (somewhat like Joann's) they had batiks at $22 metre (39") Needless to say I buy all of mine online from the US. I love batiks as well but certainly can't afford to buy them here.

I'm getting sticker shock at any fabrics I run across lately. Hancock Fabrics had some though @ 40% off and they were $9.99/yd before the reduction - I'm glad I have a stash!

I have puchased two at JoAnn's at that price minus a 40% coupon, of course. Both are worth every penny - hand stamped with beautiful coloring in several shades, not just two colors. Would I pay the $13? No, it's not in my budget. It depends on what you want it for and how bad you want it. I have sewn with $89.95 a yard fabric in the past!! (I didn't pay full price for that, one either).

My thoughts exactly - c'mon up to Canada. Even better, the Canadian dollar is now higher than the USD, making it even more painful. But we do sell by the metre, so you get an extra 3" :)

I bought some while on retreat -- only allowed myself 4 yards (1 yard of 4 fabrics) as they were about $9.75/yard. I was told she had received notification they were going up to $16.50/yard. Guess I will be rationing Batiks until I find a windfall or win the Lottery.

The Legecy ones from JAs are really pretty, I still buy them with coupons, too!

The LQS here just got in some very pretty batiks, and the new price is $9.99/yard. When I told her that JoAnn's had some from $12.99 she was shocked.

my LQS had new batiks at 10.99/yd. I'm so happy I have a huge stash. Will be diving into it when I get a wedding quilt finished.

I bought batiks from Roberta on the board and they are beautiful. I don't know what they cost now but last year they were under 7.00
Double digits for fabric is making me re-think my stash!!

Batik at our LQS is anywhere from $16.95 to $22.95 (Canadian $), depending on the manufacturer and shipping, etc.. I buy it when it goes on sale, which is not very often.

My lqs has a ton of them for 9.99. Ive been searching online for quite a while looking for batiks. Ive seen most of them for that price and under. hancocks of paducah and joanns had them for 12

Barbara (quilter on the eastern edge) - batik prices are about the same at our LQS also. I buy when they are on sale or when I go to the US.

Darn! Are you in the GTA? I thought I could pick up some cheaply when I visit my sister in October. Guess I'll cross batiks off my list. :(

cjmomma, LQS batkis have been in the $12-15 range here in western Michigan for about 6-8 months and I was just speaking with an ownere and she said they were going up agian. I love batiks and so I shop batiks plus quite often.

I am still shocked mainly due to the fact that in this little town they won't sell for that price. This is mostly a retirement community even tho we have a university here people can't afford those prices. Even the store manager couldn't believe the prices. She when someone hears the price they just put it back on the shelf.
