Joanne's won't ship to Canada. When I was in AZ they wouldn't accept my Canadian CC. So couldn't order on-line, but they accepted my CC in their store. I'm not sure who shippes to Canada. I'll look into that more for sure as I won't pay those prices. I wanted to use W& W since I only have a 9 inch throat machine.

I just yesterday got a whole 40yd roll at Joann's.com of 45" wide batting. I used my 50% off coupon. I think I paid $2 a yard and shipping was about $13. If I need wider, I just piece it together. Most of my quilts are lap size, not bed size.

Kingsmen quilting supply carries Hobbs batting AND they ship to Canada. A queen size 100% cotton batting is US $15 and the 80/20 Hobbs Heirloom is only $12.50.

I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would order from JoAnnes, their prices are unreasonably high even when at 50% off! Believe me Hobbs is a wonderful product, I prefer it over W&N. The 80/20 handles and feels just like W&N. I also love their Poly.

I bring stuff across the border to Canada alot. It is not expensive to declare (i.e. not smuggle it in), especially if the product is made in the US, as then there is no duty. You may have to pay HST, but that is not nearly as expensive as shipping usually is. Also, if you are away at least 48 hours (soon to be 24 hours as of June 1) you can bring more in duty free. Even on a day trip, it's worth it.

You can't compare W&N to Hobbs, because the Hobbs has to be quilted 3.5 to 4" apart and the W&N 8" to 10" apart.

wow you have to smuggle batting across the border ???? omg that is crazy what do they think your going to use it for besides a quilt ?? that is outragous. i cant believe theres such a stupid law.

The scrim in W&N (made out of polyester BTW) is the ONLY thing that allows quilting that far apart. If you want to quilt that far apart Hobbs cotton batting with the scrim you can quilt up to 8" apart (although connecting threads claims up to 10" on this product I would trust the manufacturere first). so yes you CAN compare hobbs to W&N.

However when I made my comparison above, I was referring to how the batting needled (for hand quilting) the feel of the batting to the touch, and it's drape so I can see where you would be confused. I never quilt that far apart anyway, Either by hand or machine. I just don't think it looks very nice but that is my opinion. If you like quilting far apart there are loads of choices out there that are much less expensive than W&N which was the OP topic.
