Yet, again, I have taken on the task of chairperson for the Towpath Quilt Guild Holiday Party. Any ideas for quick, fun games to play? Keeping in mind that we are a large guild of about 100 members, I'm open to suggestions/new ideas for ways to entertain such a large group of quilters. In other words, we are tired of playing QUILTO (the quilter's version of BINGO)

Strip poker!!!
Everyone that wants to participate brings 25 2 1/2inch strips. You put six to 8 people on a table and let them play. We used cards and whoever drew the highest # won the strips. You play as long as you want or until you have played 25 games. It goes really fast and is real fun. They can bring red, green and christmas print fabric strips.

You can do Dirty Santa or White Elephant. Everyone brings around $10 of sewing stuff they do not want and wrap it up. Everyone draws a number and they take turns getting a gift or stealing a gift from someone else.

You can also do an ornament exchange.

I like the ugly fabric dare game LMBO that could be one "crazy quilt" :D:D:D

Our guild sometimes does "Let's Make a Deal" with 3 boxes and little gifts of notions or FQs. The MC usually makes up a list of unusual stuff that can be found in purses, and calls them out 1 by 1. If you have it first, you get to choose the box you want, and you get what's under it.

I liked "who's watching"

The down side of exchanges - same as the down side for potlucks -

there are some that bring things that are definitely a bit lower quality or value than the majority of exchangers

how about a contribution to a food shelf?

after everyone has checked in, maybe a contest/quiz - someone would have to count the contributions -

how many cans of corn?
how many cans of beans?
etc?

whoever has the most correct answers could win a door prize

Will the attendees be dressed up?

Hold up odd/unusual quilting gadgets and have people name them - or have a sheet of paper with them listed and they have to match the item with a letter

Everyone would have all the items on the sheet - so it would be different from bingo/quilto - Item #1 - is Letter M

or pass the items around with numbers taped to them. If a large group, have several of each item going around at one time. Could have more than one thing going around at the same time, too.

Suggestions: etui (fancy needle case), awl, needle threader, point turner, etc. -
use the name that the maker/manufacturer uses

Nita,

I just posted what I did for games/mixers at our guild party last night. Maybe what I did can help you.

An idea I just got this weekend is to play Family Feud. Just search on the internet for "family feud questions and answers" and you will find some websites.

I just played this and it was set up as an individual competition not as teams. I had a sheet in which to write down my answers. Points were given if you had one of the top 5 answers. If I had the most popular answer, I got 5 points. Second most popular was worth 4 points. Third most popular, 3 points ....

The game I played had 20 questions. Player with the most points got a prize. Lots of laughing and disagreement with the top 5 answers.

Ya could do a fat quarter exchange..or an auction of members stuff, swap table, quick ornaments, baby bibs for newbornes(Jesus bday is coming up), quick lap robes or wheelchair bags, pattern swaps...treasure hunt that divide into groups and ones that get most goodies get to give others a prize(switch as to who gets most)
any way good luck & have some fun...

Thanks, Everyone, for your input of great ideas!

Faye, I just love this idea for "tweaking" the Family Feud questions so it works as individual competition. I'm positive that this will be a huge hit with the women in my quilt guild. What we usually do is raffle off the centerpieces on each table. We have ten tables of ten members. So, the way it works is that members are competing against the other nine people seated at their table. Also, "sit down" games work best in this large group of about 100, where some of the woman are older and have mobility problems.

Thanks, again, to everyone. I'm open to more suggesrtions of sit-at-the-table games that can be played with a large crowd.
