The pattern is Carol Doak's Alaska star from her 50 Fabulous Paper Pieced Stars.

I love this block. It's going to be a huge amt. of work for a whole quilt so I'd suggest trying it in a table runner first. I sure love it. I love changing tablerunners all the time. Just a thought.

Even if it is too bold, you could always put sashing between the blocks.

I did not look and see the block. That is beautiful. You could still put a color sashing.
