quilting with embroidery machine

For those of you who quilt using an embroidery pattern: is there any trick to doing this, or is it as straightforward as it seems? I haven't tried this yet, but find the idea intriguing. Example here: http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/Product...roductID=X0633
Thanks!

I'm wondering if hooping the quilt sandwich is going to cause problems as I move around...

as long as the quilt is supported it should be fine. I have a hoop that is for quilts it is for thick fabrics

I just start in the middle and work my way out.

I use myembroidery machine and my embroidery machine only to do my quilting. I don'thave the patience to FMQ. I have aviking ruby that I use for the quilting and another viking 100class to do mypiecing with.
You needto hoop each section. I align each areaup before I let the machine do its own job.

i'm interested in this because i'm thinking of quilting my Dear Jane this way.... although i think QAYG would be better

I do QAYG with the machine. I'm hampered by hoop size, so I do the same patterns FMQ.

I have done this with small quilts. The important thing is to support the quilt. I use a Brother Ult2002

From the tutorial the size of the quilt looks like no larger than a placemat. But I don't have an embroidery machine.

I'm doing this right now. The quilt is only about 60X70. I have Diagonal quilted on the regular machine and now am embroidering small spools of thread between the blocks where there isn't any stitching. I'm using my 4X4 hoop and it takes about 20 minutes per motif (there are 24 of them). I'm liking the look and have had no problem with the hooping. I'm using Pellon cotton batting (Warm&White thickness). I did a baby quilt with the quilting patterns like you referenced and didn't care for the effect.mit was hard to find a design that didn't take away from the block
