What do you store your safety pins in? Do you store them open or closed? If I leave them open it is a huge tangled mess but I hate having to close each and every one (I'm lazy). I like to use both safety pins and straight pins when basting a quilt.

I close my safety pins when not in use.

I'd be a bloody mess if I used straight pins.

I store mine closed and keep them in an empty plastic gum container (Orbit). Remove the label from the side of the container and the sticker from the top. The top screws on and off, and there is a tab that opens and you can shake out what you need.

I have 3 boxes tiered in sizes. The have pics of sewing machines on them. They stand one on top of the other. Safety pins are open and in the top (smallest) box. They all have the plastic covers on them to make them easier to use. Once I open them to remove from a quilt sandwich I see no need to close them only to open them to use them later.
I did process improvements at work and guess that stays with me. Ha! Really they don't stick me and maybe that is because I have the plastic covers on them.
Just a matter of choice.

I always close mine-for my saftey- and store them in a tupperware type container.

I store mine open in a rubbermaid square keeper. They don't get that badly jumbled and it's easier to use them when I'm basting. I guess they don't get that jumbled b/c I have the safety pin grip covers on the pins.

I store mine closed in a old glass bale jar.

I throw them all in a mason jar, open, then dump them all out on the floor when it's time to pin again and shake them out to untangle them. Probably not the best technique...

That's how I do them, Rebecca!! Works for me.

I keep all my safety pins in an old Chinese soup container.
My straight pins are just stuck in my pincushion.
