:?: :?: Tried the Quilt wizard foot that makes a SQI??? It costs $30.00 plus postage any ideas on something else I have to wait 4-6 weeks for this thing. I need Help Now. I just started piecing never tried it before!!!! Do I need this thing???

I have never tried the Quilt Wizard foot, but I do swear by my quarter inch foot and would never make another quilt without it. I say the same thing to my students.

Like Quilting Aggi, I haven't tried the Quilt Wizard foot and I like my quarter inch foot too, because it makes it much harder for the seams to be larger than that.

I use a magnet since my machine isn't computerized, but I have to remeasure and recheck everytime I take it off. Pain!

judging by the responses every time this subject comes up, it seems most quilters prefer their quarter-inch feet. i'm not particularly crazy about them. i have tried several different models and keep going back to my favorite all-purpose. i must point out, though, that i'm able to set my needle to a bazillion positions to the left or right of center. when i want a standard or scant quarter inch. i don't switch feet. i change the needle position.

here's a review of the Quilt Wizard. it sounds like a very interesting little gadget. You will probably be glad you ordered it. I gasped at the price until i read the review and found out it's actually one foot with two different adapters. One for quarter inch; the other for in-the-ditch. Brother also makes a pretty neat quarter inch foot. it has a nice wide footprint that helps control the fabric as it feeds over the dogs, but still provides a fairly accurate guide. It's a standard snap-on, so would work on most machines. I'm tempted to buy one just because it's so nifty.

I also use the regular foot, but I move the needle to the right position.

When I use a Quarter inch foot, the fabric has a tendency to drift to the left because it's not pushed along on both feed dogs but rather just the left one.

Hey, Cathe. I'm betting you do just fine with your system. If you are in the market, though, for a quarter-incher that covers both dogs, the Brother foot i showed the link to is shaped in a way that provides a nifty quarter inch reference, but is wide enough to feed using both dogs.. Take a look. (nope. i promise. they aren't paying me to sell this foot. the one i've tested belongs to a friend of mine. :lol: )

Can I use a Brother 1/4 inch foot on a Bernina?

I have a 1/4 inch foot for my Bernina, made by Bernina. I think there are feet you can purchase for you Bernina to adapt the feet of other brands, but they cost every bit as much as the 1/4 inch foot.

The Bernina foot sews right in the middle, both feed dogs are utilized and the seam sews straight. I love mine and won't sew on a quilt without it!

Mine isn't 100% accurate to the scant quarter so I've had to adjust things anyway. If I had one that was exactly on, I'd imagine it a marvel. When I stop to think of all the wonderful quilts made without one, it all falls into perspective.
