Shirring on a quilt
Quite a few years ago Martha Pullen (I think) had a quilt she had put a shirred inside border on a quilt. It was a beautiful white and pink thing. Anyone remember this?? I'd like to try that but can't find where I saved her photo for inspiration. Anyone have any reason why shirring is not a good thing on a child's quilt??

I don't have the answer to your questions, but I remember seeing a quilt like that and it was lovely.

I cannot answer your question but I do remember a baby blanket by Martha Pullen or Creative Needle (?) The top inset was one piece of fabric, perhaps 10 inches wide, with several rows of tiny pleating or dense shirring (1/4 or 1/2 inch apart) running the width of the blanket. Seems like it was part of a Christening gown ensemble?? I believe the inset on the one I am thinking of was actually pleated on a smocking pleater then smocked. The smocking added design and held the pleats together keeping them from ballooning. It was beautiful.

Martha always called the stirred areas "puffing". Maybe that will help you find it? I will see what I can find. Her quilts usually were assembled as a small segment at athe end of several shows in a series.
