Thimble Blossoms Swoon Pattern?

Hi-

I am thinking about purchasing this pattern, but I would like it to be versatile..meaning, can I make different sized quilts..larger/smaller with it? For those that have this pattern, is it fairly easy to piece and cut? Not a huge fan of 1/8' or 7/8" sized cuts!!

Thanks, JC

Swoon is actually the Carpenter's Star. It's free online. We were talking about this on another thread, the link to the free pattern (if you don't already have it in a book) is http://sewandsoquilts.blogspot.com/2...ters-star.html

24 inch blocks are here: http://www.quilterscache.com/C/Carpe...heelBlock.html with some info about changing the pattern to a 12 inch finished block. Hope this helps.

Does this pattern make one big star or would it be blocks you put together for a large quilt? Would love to make one if it is just one big star.

Thanks for the links! I knew it would be simple to figure out the pieces, but the sizes to cut are always trouble for me.

This block is made up of squares and half square triangles. 8 by 8. If you have graph paper you can draw it any size you want. Just make the squares larger. I used this pattern for a medallion block in the center of one of my quilts. I made it 40 in. square. I used colored pencils to color my pattern. You do have to pay attention to color placement.

Either ways, it's really all up to your creativity.
There's been several quilts posted on here, where they used several blocks for one quilt.
It can be quite effective and showy.
And equally as nice have been the postings of the jumbo size where it is oversized, so that the whole quilt top is just one massive block.

The free patterns give you the same visual effect with more sewing and cutting. Swoon has simplified the pattern with less cutting and sewing, less pieces. It would be easier to make the carpentars star in different sizes I think because its based upon squares only. Swoon has rectangles also. I think though you could resize both fairly easy with graph paper. Its an old quilt square pattern if you search around you'll find it. I found it in one of my quilt books.
