Living room to sewing room

Hubby moved my longarm to the living room, and his pool table out here for me to use as a sewing/cutting area...he thought it would be cleaner, lol...silly man!

My roommate and I turned the dining room into the sewing room as we always eat at the bar, where our laptop computers also sit. She has a design wall and I have a design wall. The best days are when we are both off and spend the day sewing. Even better is when we can work on a project together. The neighbors love coming over to see what's new on the design walls. We never use the huge open living room, so we finally set up a cutting table at the end of that. It gives the cats another surface to sleep on!

You will need to plan some hidden storage areas. I moved into the spare bedroom to sew, and now I have 2 messy sewing rooms and 2 "sewing closets" instead of one. Sewing is messy! For me, at least! It increases in direct proportion to the amount of room you have. Good luck!

Of course you should create YOUR sewing room wherever you want. Bet once you do this, you'll be smiling each and every time you create there!

There's lots of wonderful organizing ideas/pictures in a special section here at quiltingboard. Just let us know what you end up doing and how you make it work for you.

I say go for it! We have reserved way too much room in our house for "company" which rarely comes. I used to entertain a lot, but other than occasional family visits esp the grands we just don't enjoy it anymore. It's your place and should please and accommodate you first and foremost.

I think it's a great idea! It's your house, LIVE in it.

Thank you

i would. Myself I would like to move the computer room to the master bedroom and move my sewing to the computer room. That way I could have my tv on while sewing. I can't stand sewing in the master bedroom with no tv. I do turn on my music, but sometime I want the tv on. And, when hubby sleeping I could be sewing when ever I want with out disturbing him.

if it will make you happy, then do it.

That's what we did when we moved into this house. Originally, I was in a smaller room, but my husband wanted a man cave and I needed room for a LA. Now I have everything in one room. The only problem is the room is open to the rest of the house (no solid walls except the exterior walls), so it's not always quiet.

Some years ago I picked up a grandchild at a birthday party and the mother invited me inside so she could take a break (some other mother had volunteered to kid watch). I was really startled because the living room was most of the down stairs, a huge room, circular, lined with computers, printers and equipment I couldn't ID. Apparently both parents either worked from home or did a lot of "homework" and the center of the room was for the young children. Obviously a setup that really suited their needs. Why not?! I didn't go upstairs but I couldn't help but wonder if they had soft "living room" chairs for relaxing and being together. Whatever works. In years gone by it was not unusual for children to be kept out of the "parlor" because it was kept perfect for when guests came! Now that is sad!
