Just happened to go to WM on my lunch hour today to pick up little more of the jewel color fabrics that my DH so sweetly got me last week...the pattern he chose needs a little more than he got.
Anyway, was getting the fab cut and the lady cutting asked if I had seen the bolts of fabric up front for $5 a bolt. I said really? She said yep! Well I went to look and although they were partial bolts with about four yards each, I found 3 bolts of decent weight fabric, one a baby panel print each bolt 44" and one of nice wgt green 60+ " wide. I was almost dancing to the check out.
Well back to work, pics when I get home.

WOW!!! Lucky YOU :D:D:D

mcdaniel023 07-15-2010 10:58 AM

I saw them at our walmart. It doesn't say what is in the fabric content. But, some of it feels pretty nice. There is supposed to be 5 yards on each bolt. $5.00 for 5 yards....not bad.

nursie76 07-15-2010 11:06 AM

The ones I got say 100% cotton. If yours had it too, I should check out the other one on my way home. 5 yards! Ooooo, it is even better than I thought! Thanks!

most of our walmart's here is starting to close the fabric departments the other day they had the fabric 50% off. the minute that happened the fabric was gone.

stefanib123 07-15-2010 11:17 AM

Hmmm...I just went to Walmart and got fabric today and I didn't see these.

Maybe they had them and I just overlooked them? I have to go there tomorrow, and I'll ask someone, just in case.

Up North 07-15-2010 11:19 AM

I got some deals at Walmart today too! Cranston fabric for $1.00 a yard!!

cjomomma 07-15-2010 11:22 AM

I went to my WM and there wasn't any good deals in fabric's. It is not like I need to buy anymore but I am like everyone else I like a good deal.

mcdaniel023 07-15-2010 11:30 AM

They had three different displays of this fabric. I sure looked like something new they were trying. They didn't have them Sunday when I was there. There were several that looked like reproduction fabrics. I just looked because I promised I would not buy any fabric for awhile and I just went to Michaels and bought all of their clearence fat quarters (5 for $1.49). So how long is awhile...a couple of days???

stpatmom 07-15-2010 11:36 AM

At that price, I would have found plenty of uses for that material! When another wal-mart near me got rid of their fabric department, I had all of these ideas of things to make with what was on sale for 50% off. I did grocery bags, kitchen accessories, I have a quilt planned for hubby, and pillow cases for the kids!

brookemarie19 07-15-2010 11:38 AM

Man, I keep hearing about these bolts and the baskets that are 50% off at Walmart and I think I'm getting a little envious. I am very happy that atleast my Walmart has fabric, but sure wish they did this stuff. I'm lucky if I find anyfabric on sale there at all anymore and their remnants is only 20% off plus a total tied up mess so hard to even see what it is. Good luck to anyone else who looks at their Walmart for these deals...hope you guys get good ones!

sharon b 07-15-2010 12:10 PM

Wish I had the time to run over and check my Walmart out

Glad you were able to get such good deals

jackkip 07-15-2010 12:39 PM

I heard all of the wal-marts are doing away with fabric. It really is kind of ironic how the wally worlds without fabric are still selling sewing machines.

p38flygirl 07-15-2010 12:46 PM

My WALMART is closing out fabric next year...and we won't have anywhere local to buy it ...I don't understand why they are doing that...The fab dept is always busy...

My guess would be money. It might seem busy, but WM only does things from a business stand point. Can they make more money selling big screen TV's or yards of fabric?

That's my guess, too! They get a bigger profit per square foot of floor space from more expensive items than they do from "lowly fabric." You gotta satisfy the masses I guess.

I think I'm going to run out to my Walmart to see if they have any deals going on in the fabric department! 8-)

Janetlmt 07-15-2010 02:23 PM

wow..I have to check Walmart

nursie76 07-15-2010 02:26 PM

Went to another WM on my way home. Had more bolts of pretty much the same material, but did find a bolt of the wider material in purple, and a second bolt of the jungle print. Now I can use that print for kalidoscope quilt and regular too. Also found a great patriotic print, nice quality, for $1 a yard (got 4). DH found some FQ's of decent quality that appealed to him for $1 each. All100% cotton. So I am a happy camper...ahhh, quiter. ;-)

You are supposed to be home taking pix for us!!! Hurry! Hurry!

CherokeeGal 07-15-2010 02:33 PM

My Walmart HAS closed out their fabric just recently! The gals in the fab dept was really upset & disappointed about losing their jobs & not being able to be seeing their repeat customers that they made Friends with! I will definitely MISS them! They were always so helpful!

I think this Quilting Board SITE is just WONDERFUL!!! Thanks, for being here you all...

kdid82 07-15-2010 02:58 PM

If I didn't have to drive over a 100 miles to get to a Wal-Mart, I'd be on my way now! Sounds like a real good idea.

mzsooz 07-15-2010 03:07 PM

You're lucky. I just got back from our WM and saw the $5 bolts and there wasn't anything I could use. In fact it was some really weird knits and things. Maybe somebody beat me to it and got all the good stuff!

C.Cal Quilt Girl 07-15-2010 03:16 PM

Does any one else wonder if "no fabric" in the stores, being reviewed ??? Mark up is generally o.k. hopefully made in the U.S.A. their are a few people that could use jobs. Hmmmmm If working at, WM might be somthing for the suggestion box. :)

sewnsewer2 07-15-2010 03:18 PM

Oh, can't wait to see what you got!

CarrieAnne 07-15-2010 04:07 PM

I have to go to Walmart tomarrow, so I want to see if they are doing that!

Ok, I am home. Here are pics of my material. I am really thrilled with all of it...almost. When I was looking at the $1 material, I passed some decent quality material that was Elvis Presley themed...just not that into Presley. I was excited to find Army themed material with dog tags, soldiers stripes etc on it in a color that I could pair with cammo colors for my grand son...didn't really care about the print as I would be cutting it in strips, but was excited about the colors....now as I am taking pics, I see it is pic/representations of Elvis's dog tags, draft registration card with his signature...all nice, but just not into Elvis...DRAT! Hmmmm wonder if it would work for a kaleidoscope quilt or it would probably make a really unique pocketbook?
Not bad for a days work, huh?

Over view of Elvis material Dog tags seem to stand out.

That would be great! I know that the one nearest me lost their fabric, and had hardly any yarn...last time i was in there seemed to be more yarn, but the sewing machines, which had stayed when the fabric left, are now gone.

bmanley 07-15-2010 04:40 PM

Wal Mart in my home town did away with their fabric too. I have to go to a quilt shop nearby which is a nice store but a little pricey. I hardly go to Wal Mart anymore.

sewnsewer2 07-15-2010 04:41 PM

Great choices and I am an Elvis fan! :-)

brookemarie19 07-15-2010 04:51 PM

Ok, so I know what I'm looking for when I get there... do they have it labeled a special way to know that it is $5 a bolt price? I'm trying to figure out where it would be in mine. Were they with all the per yard clearance fabric?

mzsooz 07-15-2010 04:52 PM

brookemarie19 07-15-2010 04:54 PM

Well, I guess I will wonder through the store looking if their not even going to keep it in the same department. Were they marked special?

nursie76 07-15-2010 04:55 PM

Both of the WM's I was at had it in a big bin or two in a wide isle just outside the fabric department.
