Who took my stuff?

In the past six months I have lost my quilter's calculator, favorite retractable measuring tape, and last night my thread snips!!! These three items I always, I thought, put back in their special place. So I want to know who's coming into my house and taking this stuff! Or second question, who would be so mean to hide my favorite tools? I have a feeling it's my alter ego. Tonight gonna do a search and recover and see if I can relocate this stuff and see what other treasures are trying to escape. Doing this takes time away from by sewing but guess it just has to be done.

girliegirl 01-25-2013 05:28 AM

The sewing fairy needed your items! good luck. I do the same thing and then end up with two!

Raggiemom 01-25-2013 05:52 AM

Hope you found your stuff! I'm missing several pairs of scissors, can't figure out where I put them :(

damaquilts 01-25-2013 05:55 AM

I have many pairs of snips and many seam rippers simply because the gremlin was always moving them. I thought it had gotten my pressing sheet too. Nope that was all me. I left it with a UFO in a box.Amazing the things one finds when packing to move.. lol I did buy a new one and its much bigger. So now I have 2.

booklady1952 01-25-2013 05:59 AM

I know where they are...................You'll find them in the last place you look!

That makes sense. Why would you continue looking if you found them already?

Teeler 01-25-2013 06:27 AM

I couldn't help myself. My snips were dull, so I took yours that were sharper, and the calculator was just too cool of a gadget to leave behind, and you're right, this retractable measuring tape is the bomb!

BellaBoo 01-25-2013 06:33 AM

I gave up a long time ago looking for my quilting tools. I go in my tool stash box and get another one. If I do ever find them all I put the extra back in my stash box. I can lose a pair of scissors on a bare table. LOL.

QuiltnNan 01-25-2013 06:37 AM

if i would just clean up once in a while, i'm sure i'd find lots of little gadgets LOL

Tartan 01-25-2013 06:42 AM

I always try to put my stuff back where it's supposed to go unless I get interrupted. If the phone rings or I have to go do something else, sometimes I take my tools with me and set them down where I went to do the task. It is a good excuse to clean your sewing room but they might have wandered further afield.:)

PaperPrincess 01-25-2013 06:44 AM

I cannot sew without a stiletto in my hand. It's tied to my machine with a piece of twine. Really classy looking. I have a pair of scissors bungee corded to my accucut. By the PC, we have a largish container for pencils etc. It also has a pair of scissors attached with a cord, and a stapler, likewise attached. My keys are on a long leash on my purse (which also acts as a key fob) I don't unclip them when I drive, just use them attached with the long cord. My head is likewise attached!

skowron5 01-25-2013 06:48 AM

I am on my second pair of quilters gloves. My room is small. Pretty scary that I have that much stuff I can't find things. I will probably only have time during spring cleaning to do my sewing room it is so bad.

DOTTYMO 01-25-2013 06:51 AM

The borrowers always seen to take my pins. Applique pins, curved pins, flower head pins glass pins. I am always buying more pins. Problem is I never find the missing ones. .
I haven't lost my head so far, keys, money purse, rotary cutter, mat always go walk about.

mighty 01-25-2013 07:41 AM

Sure hope they are found!

That's so funny, I was also going to say the Borrowers in your house must be really active. Full size scissors must be hard for them to handle, but the snips might be just right. When we put in a new kitchen in our 200 year old house, a kid glove, a toddler's hand stitched dress and a little boy's sailor top came out of a wall. We knew mice pulled things into holes, but these were a real surprise. I'm sure someone went crazy trying to find them, I'd say about 60 or 70 years ago. Buy new tools, then the old ones will probably turn up, though.

Tink's Mom 01-25-2013 07:56 AM

Check with the dog or cat....they thought you were spending too much time with your quilting and decided to hide your toys...

Jim 01-25-2013 08:08 AM

I have two really nice pair of snips...I always kept one under lock and key in my toolbox...because it locks...another in my desk drawer safe away from my grands...they both disappeared...I bought another pair so maybe the other two pair will show up...lol

Same thing is constantly going on at my house. I think it is all of the dust bunnies!! They are taking over!! I guess now then they are learning to sew! Either that or it is the spiders trying to build more intricate webs. Oh, well, everyone has to rest every now and then. they will do the same thing and set them down when they need a break. That is when you will find them!!! Good luck!

sylviak 01-25-2013 08:18 AM

My stuff is usually in plain sight, I just can't find it because of all the other stuff that's in plain sight! When it really gets bad, it's on the "bottom" of some stack. It's worst when you can't find ANY of the multiples you have of an item....time to clean up!

luvTooQuilt 01-25-2013 08:29 AM

hahahhah This is a a great thread. You all are soo funny...

I too have a doz rippers, a doz scissors, five magnet dishes with with pins and yet when i need them I cant find them.. Go figure!

tutt 01-25-2013 09:01 AM

After two weeks I found my snips at the bottom of the trash can covered with strings and scraps!

hudgoddess 01-25-2013 09:03 AM

Look on top of your head. They're probably next to the glasses you couldn't find. :)

Zyngawf 01-25-2013 09:38 AM

The same sewing gremlins that have hidden 8 seam rippers somewhere in my house. I keep buying new ones.

sandy l 01-25-2013 10:03 AM

Check under the couch in the front room. That's where my cat hides everything:D

Jackie Spencer 01-25-2013 10:14 AM

There under something!! Or.... there right where you put them!!

Cagey 01-25-2013 10:39 AM

I have a sewing fairy too that likes to play pranks on me. I found that chocolate helps her moods - or mine - either way......... can't hurt.

If I am missing something, I usually go ask Kola what she did with it.

Earlier this week I was working on a project. My husband is making me something for my sewing room. He needed some letters covered with fabric. I left the letters on the island in the kitchen. And when I got ready to work on them two were missing. So I looked all over, started to think I may have accidentally threw them out. So I asked my husband, he had no idea where they went. So I asked Kola, she said.....how dare you accuse me of getting up on the island! I nudged her and said.........you old hag what do you think your sitting on now!....She jumped down, slinked off into the living room and said.....see if I offer to help look for them.

I found them a little while later, under one of the kitchen rugs and the other under the fridge. Of course we will never know how they got there, since Kola would never, ever get up on the island.

I had to laugh at this "dilemma" ya got going on there, sorry. For 2 months I couldn't find my best( & favorite) rotary cutter and was reduced to using my little tiny one to cut all my quilts with. I swore Chunky, my grandson, ran off with it and searched all 3 of his toy boxes and everywhere else he hides things. For 2 months! Then, while cleaning up the studio and working on the scrap bins last week, I ran across a lump at the bottom of one. Yep, there it was. Now how on earth it wound up at the bottom of a scrap bin that hadn't been touched in a year, I am utterly clueless. But, I sure hope ya find your stuff.

KwiltyKahy 01-25-2013 03:22 PM

Sounds like you have gremlins, their cousins live at my house.

barri1 01-25-2013 03:31 PM

I don't usually have a problem with the sewing tools, more of where I put my glasses, and cordless phones. I can't leave the house without my glasses, as I am nearsighted..

sewingsuz 01-25-2013 03:36 PM

My DH says Herman did it. I guess that was a ghost when he was growing up. To me that was the name I gave my sour dough starter.:o:eek::D

roguequilter 01-25-2013 03:48 PM

i keep my snips, tape measure....all the tools i use most while working. when done i cove w fabric being used or remember to be neat and tidy in case i don't get back to my wip soon. i have one lovely fuzzy that sits and stares at the box with all the tools. she digs around as if trying to find just the right tool for her needs. then she pulls out my snips, or that wonderful tapemeasure with the the that allows it to hang around my neck. couldn't figure out where things went for the longest time. then one night i stood in doorway & watched her. lollol...so now i have new plastic box with hinged lid to close away from sight, all those tools she loves most. no more crawling around floor w flashlight looking under china hutch etc with dusting wand in other hand to fish out my snips and whatever else had caught her fancy!

ro 01-25-2013 05:42 PM

i agree w/quiltnan. if only i had time to clean up. but thats no fun. i'd rather go to the store and buy whatever it is ive lost. why waste time.

CoyoteQuilts 01-25-2013 07:33 PM

My quilt/sewing room has always been off limits, but there was other things that were not... I never could find a pair of nail clipper, tweezers or everyday scissors unless they were in my pocketbook :(....

irishrose 01-25-2013 08:03 PM

I've lost my bag of screwdrivers and such and I need to work on a SM. This is not good. Maybe it ran off with your tools.
