embroider on muslin and make a quilt? Would it look tacky?

Machel 02-24-2009 04:58 AM

why wouldn't it as long as you use stablizer on the back. I think it would make a great antique quilt.

If you have a good quality muslin, it would be beautiful.

reneebobby 02-24-2009 05:02 AM

Oh good, then I'll start tonight on it. hehehehe

Also should I use a cutaway stablizer and not a wash away?

Machel 02-24-2009 05:04 AM

cut away depending on the quality of muslin. or use a coffee filters

reneebobby 02-24-2009 05:05 AM

Okay even better I have coffee filters. Thanks for your help

Machel 02-24-2009 05:07 AM

talking to Terri on phone she suggested coffee filters (white)

key4unc 02-24-2009 05:07 AM

Sound like it will be a beautiful quilt to me. Be sure to post pics along the way.

reneebobby 02-24-2009 05:15 AM

Machel will do. Tell Terri thank you also.

Key4unc I will post pics.

When I get home tonight I'll start on that and I just might have the hubby do the embroidery while I fix a quilt. I'll be killing two birds with one stone. lol

Renee, I have used the white coffee filters on SMALL embroidery pieces. Not big ones. I should have mentioned that to Machel when we were talking. I wouldn't use it for an entire quilt, maybe for just a few pieces to get you thru in a pinch.
But, if I had my choice, I'd use tear away.
