I have been on this board and have thoroughly enjoyed reading all the things the ladies and gents have to say. My sister in law received a feather quilt for xmas last year and the feathers are coming out of the material. She kept it under her bed and her grandson hides under there. One day he came out with feathers all over him. Looked like he was turning into a chicken.

You ladies and gents are always finding answers and "cures" to problems. Can someone tell me how to keep the feathers in so she can enjoy the quilt and pillows. Thanks you so much in advance.

I have had pillows do this, the pointy ends of the feathers allow them to push themselves out. I covered the pillows with a heavier, denser woven fabric :D:D:D

The weave of the covering fabric is too loose. Needs to be covered, maybe a duvet, with a denser woven fabric. That's why they sometimes call ticking, feather ticking. The weave is so tight that the feathers won't come thru. Also this is the difference between feathers (with the pointy quills) and down which is just the fluffy stuff.

I would just make a duvet cover for them.

That's what I would do too.

It needs to be re-covered with ticking, this is specifically made to be used with down/feathers, one note not all ticking is the same this is one item I really would want to see/feel in person. Some companies have fabric that is printed to look like ticking but is not the real deal.
Addionally big difference between down and feathers. Feathers have a bigger quill on the feather that is what comes through the fabric. Some feather items have such a large amount of quill in them that the best ticking will not keep it from coming through.

Hi
A duvet cover or if you want to spend some money The Company Store in LaCrosse WI used to have a custom shop that would retick feather beds and comforters.

Such brilliance here tonight! I was going to say make a Duvet cover and new ticking on the pillows, but you all beat me to the punch. Too quick for me I guess. I'm going to bed. :-)
