I have noticed here recently that many people are doing a straight machine stitch to machine applique verses the machine blanket stitch. Is this a new trend or does it work better? It definitely would save time. Or, maybe if it isn't going to be laundered it wouldn't matter using the straight stitch. I always fray check my edges after I machine blanket stitch just to be on the safe side. I've only been quilting for a year now so any advice is appreciated.

it's for raw edge applique, when you want the edge to get fuzzy (at least that's why i do it)

For me, it depends on how tiny the applique pieces are.

I use the blind hem stitch with an open toe foot.

One great tutorial to look at is the "don't look now" blog. I always forget her web addy, so I always have to google it...but she does some awesome straight stitch applique.

I hope to try it on a new project soon!

It all depends on the look you are going for. Some I like a raggy edge and others I want it more finished :D:D:D
