I have a long, thin panel (24x44) that I'm going to make into a quilt for DGS. I'd like for it to not be so much longer than it is wide.

Has anyone ever done a quilt with borders that are wider on the sides than on the top and bottom? Will that work?

Sure it will work! I would just audition some borders around it and choose the one I like   :D :D

Thanks amma! I think I've decided how to do it - hopefully it will look OK.

You could also put two strips down either side, then add a border the same width all around

It is YOUR quilt and you can do anything you want with it to make it come out the size you want! The QUILT POLICE are only a figment of our imagination! :?

I often make my borders a little wider on the top and bottom because of so many patterns are squares and most beds are not. The best thing about quilting is there is generally no "wrong" way to make them. (Although I have messed up one or two myself LOL) If you like it, and it does not fall apart (smile) all is good

Another option is to make some blocks with a similar theme that coordinate and use them to widen the narrow panel. You could put some sashing between and then use border around that.

Your idea of different width borders will work great. I've done it before and loved it.
