if you starch heavily, as i also do, press on the back so it doesn't leave white flakes on the front while you work.

Have you ever done the front that way also? or would that just be much?

starch the stuffin' out of all your fabrics before you cut, whether or not you'll be working on the bias. i often regret it when i skip that step.

wish i had kmown that three years ago ani wouldn't have a quilt that is a little crooked.but i still love it it's just big enough to cover up with in a chair or on the couch an take a nap.

I don't starch fabrics for the top (unless it's a background fabric for applique, or bias squares as in the original question here). However, I also don't prewash those fabrics so they still have a little stiffness from the finish that is put on most fabrics.

I try never to use spray starch on a top because I am *terrible* with overspray and with scorching. If I had a block way out-of-kilter, though, I would be tempted to use Sharon Schamber's spray starch method of squaring up blocks. (She has this and other great demo's on Youtube.)
