I'm looking for any information about a quilt located in Tennessee. It is about 84" X 84" and is constructed entirely of individual fabric circles about the size of, or a little larger than, silver dollars. The circles are stitched to one another only at the top, bottom, and each side, leaving open spaces between them where they are not stitched together. Also, there is no backing. All the individual circles look to be individually made and are very colorful. The circles are flat on one side and pleated on the other, with all the pleats stitched together in the centers of the circles. I'm sorry I don't have a photograph. Can anyone tell me anything about such a quilt? Thank you.

Yep, I'm betting it's a yo-yo, too.

It sure sounds like a yo-yo. They can have a backing attached to help stabilize them and make them much sturdier but there's no batting in them. They're used as decorative bed spreads more than quilts, but they are beautiful. You can make your own template or purchase them, but it's just a circle, turn the edge in a scant 1/4 and put a running stitch in by hand, pull it tight and secure it. When you have enough of them you just whip stitch them together. Yo-Yo's have also been used to make purses, doll quilts, dolls, etc. Good luck.
