I have the Quilt Pink book by Better Homes and Gardens.
This book has full size quilt block patterns which is great. The instructions for "assemble the block" are simple. However, there are NO measurements for cutting the pieces. I have made templates by placing over the full size block and allowing 1/4 inch for sewing. This was very time consuming and I have spent more time on trying to figure the measurements than sewing it all together. While most of my blocks have turned out beautiful and just right. I have several that came up short when the finished block is not the same size as the others. Therefore, I will not be able to use them because when you put them all together they not be the same size. Does anyone have any suggestions when you have to figure out the measurements yourself for a quilt block?

Many of us have learned the hard way that all quilt patterns and books with patterns are not written by "real" quilters. I hate getting an applique pattern home only to discover that all they provide is a line drawing. I refuse to purchase a pattern that I can not open and check to make sure that there is a sheet inclosed with each applique piece broken down and traceable.

I have a similar book. 100+ patterns, but you are expected to make templates. No measurements. One thing about the book I have is all of the blocks are 4", which I didn't know when I bought it. Well, I photocopied the pattern on plastic sheets, enlarging it 150% and cut the pieces out. With the enlargement it makes the block bigger and I just sew 1/4". Does this help?
