Quilt as You go sucess

I found this tutorial very helpful. http://maureencracknellhandmade.blog...-tutorial.html She quilts the top and batting squares, sews them together then adds the backing with stitch in the ditch to hold the layers together.

I used QAYG to make a quilt for a Joann's employee who was going into the Air Force. It worked perfectly. I will admit that I don't like it for every type of quilt since you don't always want those borders, but you can also play around with using long pieced strips instead of blocks for a different look, too.

You might want to read through this thread here on the board. http://www.quiltingboard.com/quiltin...e-t196192.html. Also Ditter has a tutorial here on the board for doing the QAYG.

Thanks! I don't have an embroidery machine, but the assembly method looks do-able and the example of backing fabric that hides problems is worth noting. I have enough 10-minute blocks for a large quilt among my UFOs, and I was planning to use sashing for it in any case, so that may be my experiment with this method.
