you can use loftier batting, hoop without stretching or distorting the quilt in any way, and you can do trapunto in the hoop because you can hoop a thicker type quilt.

thanks for the response. Im anxious to use my new Brother Duetta 4500 that I got last month, and the Magna hoop sounded like an easier way to get around the trying to hoop the sandwiched quilt - I did that with the one I made for my daughter and it took longer to hoop and stretch and whatnot than to push the start for the embroidery pattern.. on my other machine.

You can also hoop a heavy tear away stabilizer, cut out the center (the stitching area) Then I have pinned the quilt to the stabilizer around the very outside edges.
The sticky wash away stabilizers work too, but they are much more expensive.
