Quilting quote from Doreen Speckmann
Saw this on a blog this morning, and it made me laugh....so true! I am pulling my pretties and cutting into them!!!
The late Doreen Speckmann used to tell her quilt students to use the good stuff first. “If you don’t, when you die your family will turn that fabulous batik you’ve been saving into a clown costume.”

That is so true! My sister that quilts has asked that her UFO's get finished, and her fabric get split up 'tween those of us that would use it. Hopefully it ill be a long, long time before we need to deal with that.
I thought about doing what I read in a book once, put peoples names on each project even if you aren't making something for them so when you die everyone thinks you were making a quilt for them... only works if you have LOTS of UFO's hehehe Actually I wouldn't do that, but thought it was funny

I use to watch every quilt show that had Doreen Speckmann as guest. She was a great quilt teacher. Her story about the original log cabin chicken pincushion is hilarious.
I'm on my way to a quilt retreat today and guess what? I packed all my favorite fabric to cut up for log cabin strips. What good is it sitting on my shelf or in a bin? Too nice to use? That makes no sense.
I have seen so many of my quilt guild members that have died and their stash all go to a yard sale, or sale at guild, and yes even in the dumpster. Everyone of them had made the statement my DH, kids, etc. know what I want done with my sewing items. Don't count on anything you want done being done unless it's iron clad in a will.

I have a project box for each one of my family (DH, 2 sons and 4 DGDs). I use the clear scrapbook (14") project boxes. Their names are on each box. Holds the yardage and patterns. I don't have the batting and backing but the starts.
