Default quilting thread?

What kind of thread do you use when fmq'ing on a regular sewing machine? Thanks.

I use an assortment of thread but usually I use Glide thread. I have the least problems with it. I use matching color bobbin thread. Having the same color bobbin and top thread solves a lot of visual oops.

Every machine will have a thread type that works the best, and some that won't work at all. For my 6600 I get the best results with a thinner poly thread, top and bobbin.

I use Aurifil for piecing and quilting on my Pfaff 2134. I usually just use a neutral color rather than worrying about matching.

The only thread my machine will not use is Coats and Clark Dual Duty. Anything else goes. I generally use the same thread for piecing as for quilting - a 50/3 cotton. Right now I still have a boat-load of Connecting Threads cotton thread. I use the neutrals for piecing and the colors for quilting.

When I get more daring, I have some 40 wt polyester for quilting.

Many of the teachers swear by Superior Threads Bottom Line and So Fine for the bobbin and I am going to test that out.

I have a longarm now, but I used various types of thread in my Bernina, even the linty Coats & Clark. I also used water soluble thread on occasion (to baste the layers together), as well as rayon monofilament. The only one that I had a lot of trouble with was nylon monofilament.

My machine appears to be not at all picky as to what thread I use, which is convenient! (Though I haven't tried metallics in it yet)

If I want my stitches to really show up, I use Connecting Threads. Their thread is thicker so it shows up well, and it's so inexpensive that I have (literally) bought a spool in every color they offer so I have lots of options.

If I want my stitches to hide or blend in more, I use Presencia or Aurifil, whichever I have the closest color in. Those are thinner threads so they "vanish" more.

YLI monofilament in the top and DMC embroidery thread in bobbin.

My two machines I use all the time will use any thread. I have Coats and Clark and Connecting threads and I usually pick a color to use with the top. Most often on scrappy quilts I use off white.
