JANOME 1/4" foot frustration

After some 25 yrs plus of using a Pfaff, I needed a new machine. Local Pfaff dealer had gone out of business when owner died. Looked around and settled on a Janome Memory Craft 6600P. I really like the machine, (after the usual learning curve), except for the 1/4 metal foot that came with it. I got so frustrated with that metal piece on the side, that I snapped it off. Found I could still do a 1/4" seam. I had also gotten the clear, red striped 1/4 foot, but I don't use it because it has a metal piece that is suppose to be used. Haven't tried the Dual Feed 1/4" yet, it has an even bigger piece of black metal on its side.
Has anyone else experienced the same frustration with these feet?

This is a Test
I like my 1/4 foot, especially the Acufeed one, on the 6600P, but I always have to adjust the needle position, or it's a VERY generous 1/4 inch. I'm still having fun learning about my machine and all the little gadgets and feet.
My mom just got a new little Janome after having not sewn for years. She tried the 1/4 inch foot and switched back to a regular foot because she didn't like it.

I really like my foot - and it has the metal guide on the side.
You can get a replacement foot for about $8 at Hancocks, Walmart, Joanns, etc and it usually doesn't have the guide. A friend of mine had it without the guide but liked mine better so went and got one like mine instead. I think it's whatever you get used to.
You might try your zipper foot in a pinch.
