quilts in old window panes
#1
I found this old window frame out on a farm and cleaned it up.
I've seen some really cute ways to fix them with little quilts in the windows. I would love to see some of yours for some ideas.

My idea is an appliqued quilt. I will take pictures of my family at an actual picnic. SIL playing football with DGS, DD's playing with their kids...My DB's and their families, Mom, me, etc... and then print the pictures onto fabric. Applique the trees, bushes, flowers, etc and my family, mimicing the picture!!!
Then when it is put in the frame it looks like a scene outside :D:D:D
You could do the same with an autumn scene... trees, a few leaves still in the branches, most on the ground. Print pics of kids onto fabric and have them jumping in the leaves...throwing some in the air...having fun.
Your pets laying out in your back yard...the possibilities are endless and it can be more fun than hanging pictures of family.
Or mimic any photograph scene...I seen one that was like you were outside and looking "in" the house that was really cute...can you imagine sitting in your living room...looking into your living room?

Thanks amma for the great ideas. I never thought of printing pictures out onto fabric and using that. Pictures along with applique would be a great project. A friend new I kept this window and gave me 2 more old ones. They are different than this with more windows. I havn't played with those much yet.
I'm trying to decide if I should leave the glass in those or take them out. Well hopefully I'll get something going on this and post a better picture of it later.
Thanks again for the ideas

I love the idea. There is a website I go to for fabric that resembles water/rocks etc. http://skydyes.com/gallery.html
I have framed several of their pieces and love it.

I've seen this alot at craft shows here in NE - they take the glass panes out, then take a sturdy piece of card board or that thicker poster board - and take a piece of an old quilt and stretch it around the "mounting board" staple it to the back nice and flat - insert it into your window frame, then if you want take some brown paper and cover the back like on a picture. The ones I've seen them leave the wood with the paint peeling and weathered - gives it more of an antique look. Some they used the same quilt other ones were made with different ones in each pane. Others were brand new pieces that they they tea dyed to give it an antique look. Good luck and post a pic.
