Has anyone ever made a raggy quilt with just one piece flannel per block, no back or batting?

Nope I haven't. I am actually getting ready to make a rag quilt. Mine will have cotton on top batting in middle and either flannel or cotton on bottom.

I've made rag quilts but not without a flannel middle and flannel backing. I strongly recommend you get yourself some of those spring-loaded scissors. I think they are even called rag quilt scissors by Friskars. Your wrist and forarms will get a good work out!

So you would sew the squares together and basically the back would be the front after you clipped the exposed larger seam allowances? Is that the plan?

I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work.

I would probably stitch around the whole thing to create an outer seam allowance (as those edges are sewn-in or attached to another block) before I started clipping.

What kind of flannel are you using? Printed or solid?

I would use a pink plaid 10 inch sq alternating with solid 10 inch squares it would just be very light weight? Idk thought I'd see what you guys thought

many lqs carry accu go which has a rag quilt template that will cut the 5" squares and rag them. Much easier!

It won't rag as well with only one layer of flannel :wink: :D:D:D

I haven't. I make mine using flannel (cheap flannel I got for $1.00 yd) instead of batting between the top and bottom fabric.
