So I used double batting just behind this critter (haven't trimmed away the excess yet in this pic) so I think it will be just about the right amount of dimension for facial etc. features; then with the whole bat behind plus this it should pop them up quite nicely when quilted around. I know in the pic is hard to tell, but there is some dimension to face etc. What do you think?

I think that will work very well.

Yes I can see the face and its contours. You did a wonderful job. A row of quilting just off the appliqué through all batting and backing will make it pop again.

I would also put a line of quilting between the quilter and cloud.

When I do the final quilting that is when I will quilt between the cloud and unicorn, it will give them separation. Thanks!
