I used the legs below the knees (which were worn out) from one pair of jeans, I think. Cut them open along one seam so that I had two large rectangles, folded up the bottom hem to make pockets, and sewed the two halves together, leaving a hole in the middle so that it would go over the gas cap.
I put a pocket on DGS sweat shirt - he loves it so much I had to do another one so he would change clothes. The other one has a bigger pocket and it is lower so he can get into it.

Wow I bet that bad boy is heavy with all those seams. The one I made (granted it was queen) was so heavy I told my DIL never wash it in her washer,go to washateria. And it only had Dresden plates made out of jeans (cotton background) Yours looks nice!
