I'm not sure it would be cost effective, but I cut up a heat resistant ironing board cover, put the pieces together on their wrong sides and used that for insulation. Haven't done the washing test yet but since they're inside it might be okay.

Sometimes I find the flexible silicone hot pads at the dollar store and I cut them to fit the inside of a potholder. I don't sew through the silicon pad but around the potholder at the edge of the pad to hold it in place. When the potholder gets grungy I cut it away and reuse the pad.

Wow, this is a great idea! I love the silicone pads, but like the feel of fabric.

I wouldn't. The reflective part is not melt proof and can cause more damage than good.
