I just had the same problem. And yes, the holes went away after I washed them. Yeah!

I keep a small bowl of water beside my chair when I am taking stitches out of quilts (for one mistake or another) and I dip my finger in the water and put it on the holes where I have removed the thread and it always heals itself where ever I had a hole left from the removed thread.

If the holes are due to the needle cutting through the fabric's threads instead of going between them as it should, you'll be stuck with the hole.

I always use a very wet clean washcloth to gently rub over the holes, and it always works, as long as the washcloth is very (just shy of dripping) wet.

I have used the "scraping" method and the "wet/washing" method and had success with both.
