Someone requested I show what the 3 step zig zag is. I don't know if that is what it is called but that's what I call it. The left side is the stitched zig zag and the right is regular zig zag. The staggered one sinks nicely into knit or fleece fabrics and is quite stretchy. I did it the widest my Viking Diamond does.

I just made myself a fleece moebius scarf and used it. I love it. It lays much flatter than a regular zig zag and is quite stretchy too. When I mend my sheets I go over the tear with that. Play with it. You will be surprised how handy it is. There are a lot of the fancy stitches that are great to use for various techniques.

I have used that zig-zag mostly when I am mending or patching up some blue jeans or something. Comes in handy for that!!

This is a great stitch, I love that it is stretchy. It is listed as a mending stitch in my manual :D:D:D

When this stitch first came out it was advertised as a 'stretch' zig zag stitch. It is great on any fabric that has a stretch, it won't break like straight or regular zig zag stitching does and goes with the 'flow'...

I use it when joining pieces of batting...I butt the pieces side by side and then run this stitch down the middle.

I've heard of it as the elastic stitch or lingerie stitch. It will stretch with the elastic without the thread breaking.
