I would like to make a design wall that retracks away when not using it, much like a window blind.
I would like to use fleece as a base. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Would an old fashion slide projection screen work? They roll up, but not sure if adhering fleece to it would make it too thick. Just a thought.

A friend of mine purchased one of the Fons & Porters design walls. She anchors it above her closet doors and rolls it up and ties it with ribbon whenever she isn't using it.

i saw the retractable design wall at quilt market a year ago. They looked very convenient. However, It appeared the rollers were a bit larger than a regular blind. Perhaps this is to hold more layers of fabric.
Look for such a blind that you can adhere fabric to. I am sure I have seen them for making the decorator look.

i bought the longest roller shade i could find, cut the plastic away and replaced with oilcloth. place the shiny side toward the wall, the back is already kind of fleecy....it does not want to roll up with a lot of blocks on it, but will take a few...it is also fine to pin to..

Remember fleece is very stretchable, it would need to be stabilized or well backed. I would recommend either thin batting or flannel.

It's not retractable but I bought two flannel-backed plastic table cloths and sewed them together. I then use pant/skirt hangers hooked over a couple of doors. I don't have a wall in my house that doesn't have a door or a window on it that is long/wide enough to hold the stupid thing. It does work fairly well and as long as I can get the bulk of the design up there and then label the blocks/rows it works fairly well. Just a thought....
